Saturday’s News

Transient Bay

Stenna

Isn’t this big lad looking good? You would hardly recognise him from when he arrived and started work…he is about ready for a bumper run, maybe a couple of weeks – he is owned by The Waking Ned Partnership.  New Video to follow tomorrow morning of him up the gallops plus others.

I took a few photos the last two mornings up at the yard, here is Julie and Simon riding out Pass Muster and the Westerner gelding….and below is Phils go at a photo shopped version…one to make you smile!

The 5 year old multiple winner, Dr Irv is looking well and is straight back into the swing of things having done pre-training with Leanne Hannity. he is pictured below with Nicole riding.

imageAnd this handsome head belongs to Sleeping Apache, an unraced gelding out of a good winning dam by Sleeping Indian –  he is a good mover and although not over-big he is a strong sort.

imageWhen we got back home to Castleton this afternoon it was still pouring down and our team here looked like three drowned rats. Still smiling though despite the numbing coldness!! And all the horses fed and tucked up in their deep straw boxes, job well done.

Their big sister Lady Buttons in entered for Wetherby on Tuesday..Phil has not yet decided if she takes her chance, but it is a suitable mares event and if she ran well in her next race she will head to Aintree for the mares championship bumper. We rate her very highly.

imageTodays runner – A combination of weight on that ground in that class of race were against Stopped Out at Ascot today – Kate and Richie took him down, and he was wisely pulled him up when his chance was gone. At least he is safe and sound for another day, he has been a real star for the yard. I took this photo of Kate and Becky  washing him yesterday,  never the easiest colour to get clean!

Tomorrow its just one runner at Market Rasen and Richie is on board Rumble of Thunder, lets hope he can build on his latest imageMusselburgh success and win again for The Well Oiled Partnership, he is a real favourite.  Good luck also to yard amateur Philip Dennis riding his own ‘The Rustlin Rhino’ at the Helmsley Point to Point tomorrow – Phil and I are having a family day out to cheer him on. Philip is pictured here with Lady Heidi (right). She was watched by her Owner on the gallops today having a quiet canter, and all went smoothly. She can be quite a fiery madam, but we like the attitude!! She has a serious engine.

The mares are getting bigger and here is Pickworth pictured ‘blooming’ with 4 weeks to go. below her is Royalty who is absolutely huge but is not due until April 1st. Sadly her intended husband, Agglestone Rocks sire, Josr Algarhoud, has died so a different match will have to now be made. We have a ‘Josr’ foal due though, to Show Potential – it will be one of his last.

Their coats look a bit rough as they go out in the paddock for a few hours but we don’t rug them at this late stage in pregnancy. They don’t mind getting dirty!

And another view...how may foals in there?????

With the mares out the barn some time now, some of the resting boys are in there enjoying a bit of freedom while the fields are out of bounds  due to the extreme rain. I took this photo of Next Edition happily munching away next to his best friend Mysterious Wonder. Amazing King is also in there and he is without doubt the boss of everybody!

imageWhat a great place for them in this awful weather…much better than cooped up in a stable.

Dan Astle Carter visited us during the week and both Perennial and Enzaal had some dental work. Enzaal is actually very good with his teeth, as both Rachael and Carl can testify ! However, as a result of Dan’s dental skills, they are now even more effective:( Everybody is looking forward to the day that Enzaal goes back into work at Sharp Hill! (as is he) .

Pictured here is Perennial – a view you don’t see too often…
