Wed 20th Sept…..

Well it certainly is past having any ‘firm’ in the going description with all the rain we have had of late. The summer felt quite brief looking back but at least we had our coats off for a while and we now have the NH winter season just around the corner to look forwards to.

Here’s a look back to the summer with our mares and foals living their best life….

The pick of our latest runners over the past few days would be the improving 2yr old filly Lady Bouquet who ran at Musselburgh on Sunday for a close 3rd, taking on colts too. Heading in the right direction for finding the winners spot soon.

A promising effort from Lady Bouquet (above) with a front running performance

We had a bit of a worrying event at York last week with Red Force One having a nasty bout of colic in the saddling box, resulting in Phil taking him to Rainbow vets for monitoring. Fortunately he seemed to come right shortly after and has thankfully been 100% ever since. Pic below is ‘Fred’ aka Red Force One enjoying a bit of Dr green grass….and evidently the mud too on his return from the vets! He has been declared for Saturday at York to have another go, hopefully with no tummy troubles – but don’t worry, we will be closely monitoring poor Fred for any reoccurrence.

Re homing

This is ‘Dandy’ who had been returned to us from a previous loan home and has hopefully now found her forever home with Paige (above). Unfortunately this will be the 3rd re homing for Dandy, but this is why we take them back as we rather know where they are than they get passed on into the wrong hands. A HUGE commitment by PKR but undoubtedly proves we do actually care for ALL the horses, not just the ones that can run fast and haven’t gotten old!

Our foal partnerships are all sold out but we have a couple of shares available in gorgeous yearling colt ‘Teddy’ (above) out of Lady Buttons 1/2 sister by the exciting Coolmore stallion ‘Order of St George’ . Teddy is a National Hunt bred half brother to Spanish Buttons, Chico & Lacy. if you would like to be sent details to find out the price to own a share and join his partnership, please email pippakirby@iCloud.com. Owners may visit any time and we have an active private Facebook page on YouTube channel with all his story documented from birth 🤎

Here is just one of his videos: https://youtu.be/ZdG1SI5plP8?si=sqRV1evwsgs3lCaa

Another of our gorgeous foals, ‘Dolly’ Logican filly out of Lady Chloe

Our PKR TEN TO FOLLOW 2023/2024 competition is due to launch!!!! If you haven’t already, get yourself onto the page above on Facebook ready for all our tips and info to help you choose your list(s) of horses. All proceeds go to charity and everyone previously involved gives great feedback on how much fun they have following it all – so don’t miss out!

It is also very nearly HOYS time too for those of you that follow the showing scene. Pippa and her girls love it and the count down has started! 2 weeks to go until they head down to the NEC with homebreds Merlin and Mozart

PKR CLUB DAY

We had a fantastic turn out for our second PKR Club open day, which we combined with opening the doors to The National Racehorse Week who had a list of 100 visitors signed up for a visit. A campaign to bring racing more accessible to the public with hope to inspire interest and promote how well the horses are looked after and cared for. Everyone had a great day and the catering went down very well too! Here are a select few of the photo’s we have had shared with us….

Chris & Christine Duke have long been taking great care of all our flower arrangements around the yard and they certainly didn’t let us down for the open day – thank you both for all your hard work, they are beautiful as always!

Above & below, some great pics of the days activity by Janet Rayner (again, you took some good ones – thank you!)

Shot of the day has to go to Ann Rudd for this one taken of the boys field!

Most definitely the ‘hands down’ winner of cuteness goes to this one – email us, she has the job! Pic by Christine Bennett

To finish off i have dug out this old video of a past horse who many of you will no doubt remember – the great character that is Little Bruce. He loved life and his middle name must have been ‘fun’! He wants to take you on a little spin over some cross country jumps with Tommy onboard along with Joe on Oak Vintage. The closest any non-riders will get to experiencing the buzz that makes the jockeys risk the falls! Enjoy…..
