Happy New Year 2026!
I must kick off this post with a very heart felt belated thankyou for all the lovely gifts we have received over the festive season. So very many sweets, cakes, biscuits, drinks and so much more I couldn’t list it all – we really do appreciate the generosity of our lovely owners – THANK YOU ALL!!! The horses were not forgotten either – LOTS of carrots, mints and mineral licks – I think they had a lovely Christmas too!
We hope you all had a fabulous Christmas & New Year! We wished a very ‘Happy 1st Birthday’ to Kiki, born on New Years Day – I imagine it was a much more relaxed event this year! It has felt like a very busy few months here with the volume of runners stepping up a notch, and plenty to keep us busy at home too. We were beginning to think the rain would never come for the soft ground runners, but now we feel we may need a canoe soon. It has not stopped raining here all day so far and it doesn’t look like its going to stop anytime soon either – we mustn’t complain, its good for the ground – but I think it could stop for a while now! Phil has pulled out todays runner Time Was at Newcastle due to the now heavy ground, and Joe swiftly followed up with a trip to the local chip shop for everyone – well done Joe! ***WINNER UPDATE*** Our other runner of the day was HIMSELF down at Wolverhampton – winning for the 2nd time in 8 days – what a superstar he is!

Kiki enjoying her 1st Birthday on NYD.
WINNERS!!!

A great day for East Tyrone – won Best Turned Out with Izzy, and then followed up with being our 1st winner of 2026!
4 winners on the score board so far, and plenty of them getting placed too. The 4yr old flat sprinter East Tyrone – a shrewd purchase by owner Alan Fairhurst was our first winner of the year, winning at Lingfield on 6th Jan. Himself won last Tuesday at Southwell under Aiden Brookes, and then the duo followed up with another at Wolverhampton 8 days later – their 3rd win together for the lovely Mrs Joyce Porter. Also at Southwell was Dollars Dream coming a close 2nd in his race, making his last 2 runs both hitting the goal posts – a win is on the cards for this progressive lad for sure. Our third 4th win came over jumps and was Bathgate who has been a super horse for his partnership of owners, given a top ride by Joe to steal it on the last few strides.

Himself – won at Southwell & Wolves in 8 days!
Broodmares Update…

We have a modest 6 mares due to foal this year, including the much loved and still followed by many of her previous PKR club members – Green Oaks Top Cat (aka Molly, above). For those of you that enjoy following the broodmares, all the due dates are below. Be sure to check our Facebook page for up to date coverage of them all hopefully arriving safely.
Due dates:
20/1/26: Aweeminit – In foal to Midnights Legacy. Still awaiting their arrival!
8/3/26: Almajd – In foal to Massaat.
15/3/26: Green Oaks Top Cat – In foal to Chilli Zing.
2/4/26: Musikhani – In foal to Turberry Top Cat (show pony).
2/4/26: Marmot Bay – In foal to Chilli Zing.
3/4/26: Fille D’Avignon – In foal to Turberry Top Cat (show pony).

Green Oaks very handsome stallion Chilli Zing (above) is eagerly awaiting the arrival of his first offspring this year with Molly and Marmot Bay both in foal to him. He was showing bags full of potential before being cut short with injury on just his second run, so it will be very exciting to see what he can sire for owners James & Susan Cookson. These days he is happy with bags full of chop instead!
Pics from the past few weeks…

Kitaab – looking very smart on his most recent run at Newcastle on Saturday for owners The Yorkshire Puddings.

Young unraced ‘Max’ is looking fantastic. A promising prospect making nice progress for his small partnership of owners.

This is ‘Dream on Mick’ (above). The newest recruit to the PKR team, an exciting nice big stamp of a NH horse purchased from the Cheltenham sales. Joe is impressed with him.

A nice little bonus for Katie at Doncaster on Friday. The team uphold a fierce record of many BTO prizes, in part due to the amazing condition the Topspec feed keeps their coats in, aswell as the polished presentation our team work hard for.

Not so well presented was Lola in the loose barn!

This gorgeous equine doesn’t need any introduction – Bushypark is back to hopefully put a final win on the scoreboard (fingers crossed) before his well earnt retirement – No pressure Joe & Phil! Bushy has been an absolute saint of a horse over his many years with us and his loyal Green Oaks Partnership owners. We love you Bushy!!! He holds an entry for Catterick on Friday, and he will be loving all this rain.

Another face loved by many is Red Force One – he has now retired and is due to go and enjoy a well deserved quieter pace of life with his owners daughter. He has been a legend in his time with us and he will be very much missed.
Staff news…

We have welcomed Cal Cunningham to the yard team just before Christmas and he has fitted in like a glove. Cal brings may years experience with him and he has the ex PKR horses Robin des Chapp & Lady’s Present at home. In his free time Cal enjoys showing & breeding – look out for updates on Lady’s Present’s journey into motherhood!
Baby Harriet…

Lauren and her partner Mathew have welcomed their little bundle of joy Harriet in the very early hours on 5th Jan weighing 6lb7oz, a little earlier than expected but she is perfect and is now safe and sound at home. We cant wait to meet her!
He passed!

After far too many months of catching lifts or coming to and from work on his motorbike, Dan has passed his driving test at the first attempt with only 2 minors – well done Dan! I bet he is glad to get in his car for the journey home after riding out in this endless rain we have here today. He is also in the process of getting his Amateur licence, exciting times ahead for Dan!

Anna’s office dog Sky clearly not read her ‘sheep dog’ manual!
