Merry Racing Christmas
We hope you have had a restful Christmas Day and recharged your batteries ready for a festive feast of racing today and over the coming week! While the racing world will have their eyes on Kempton we’ll be keeping busy at our three Northern Tracks.
Here is our traditional Christmas video – although I am afraid we have had to improvise with the snowy shots…some action from earlier in the Year given that (thankfully) we haven’t had a drop of snow yet at Green Oaks. It was certainly a challenging Winter last year!
Its 6.30 am as I type and everybody is on their way to work while Phil is busy doing the morning feeds outside. The work doesn’t stop just because it’s Christmas and yesterday saw a record number of horses ridden out for us with so many entries made. Freezing fog hung over the farm and it was definately woolly glove weather.
We have 8 today – Phil is at Sedgefield, I’m at Wetherby and we also have 2 at Market Rasen. Here is a list of our horses and times:
Northern Girl 1 pm Wetherby
Oak Vintage 1.35 Wetherby
Nicely Indeed 2.05 Sedgefield
Sakhee’s City 2.45 Wetherby
Jaycol’s Star 2.55 Market Rasen
Dares to Dream 3.15 Sedgefield
Suggestion 3.20 Wetherby
Zig Zag 3.30 Market Rasen
Every one of our horses has an each way chance and it’s going to help everyone involved that it’s going to be dry and mild – easier to work in with this many runners and good for going racing if you are on your way to one of our Yorkshire tracks! If we had to put our money down you would think that ‘Dares to Dream’ must have a strong chance of winning the Mares bumper at Sedgefield – the form of her Kelso race has been franked several times & she has a very genuine attitude although if we could pick the track it would’ve been a stiffer, more galloping one that Sedgefield. Our other Sedge runner, ‘Nicely Indeed’ now has new part Owners, Alan & Rosemary Jowsey and we wish them the very best of luck with him this afternoon. He has been in the frame on his last three starts and he is overdue a hurdles win.
We had a ( fairly) restful Christmas Day by our standards. Phil retired early due to a proper head cold but he usually gets over these sort of things in 48 hours while I usually linger for a month! Our girls had a great day and we had our traditional Christmas pony ride, keeping them fit for hunting with the Bedale on the 28th. Phil’s assistant Trainer Simon & wife Sarah had a 1st very special Christmas to remember with their 9 month old ‘Jack’ and he’ll be going racing along with our daughters & respective families on the 27th to Wetherby. We have Lady Buttons entered alongside an all star supporting cast of Top Ville Ben, Magellan, Ice Galley, Archiposs, Ice Pyramid, Nemean Lion, Discay & Bertie Blake! Lady Buttons said hello to Scooby Doo in his elf outfit on Christmas Eve, she was fascinated as all the horses were with our ‘minis’ but Scooby was not so impressed!
We hadn’t previously posted the amazing win video by Skipthescales, seen here eating his victory carrots..
If you haven’t seen it yet you’ll be amazed by the last gasp appearance of Skip with Adam as Little Bruce looks all set to win his second chase start, this time for Nathan Moscrop. Both horses ran superbly and it’s one of those legend races that we’ll watch again & again and live in the memory.
Other yard photos over Christmas…
