Phil with his pride & joy ‘Stargazer’

A week to go until Chester Cup day and we are all pretty excited to have such a fancied runner in the big race – third time lucky this season for Stargazer would be incredible, he is in top form at home and doing everything easily.

There are plenty of runners between now and then though and Phil is doing his best to try and place his novice Chasers Sakhee’s City, Asum & Little Bruce in the right races this morning – they all have multiple entries and have schooled well. It’s a jumping and flat weekend ahead for us with Hexham, Hamilton, and Doncaster – with Uttoxeter a possibility too.  Some photos over the last two days –

Our 9 time winner & Phils first runner ( and winner) under rules – Amazing King in retirement ❤

And now to new retirement news – Giant ‘Stenna’ ( Transient Bay) has been retired after another winning season bringing his tally of wins to 5 for his Partnership. It was a difficult decision but the handicappers are very slow to drop him and he was becoming increasingly demoralised in anything but the most bottomless of ground – it had to be virtually unraceable with a small field  for him to get the lead he needed to show his best form. We all think we’ve done the right thing by this grand big horse who has been a favourite in our yard since Phil bought him from Ireland as a huge raw 3 year old. We’ve had some brilliant days out with him and his Owners have some great memories and Stenna retires sound and young enough to adapt to a new job, he’ll be getting the very best of homes. His Uttoxeter win  this Spring was a day for us all to remember!
