Saturday 5th News

Lady Buttons & friends catching the rays

Its been a glorious morning with more of the same promised for the next few days. We’ve lots of horses out enjoying the sunshine – look out for a video being posted this evening of ‘a morning at the yard’. Phil & Katie have just set off to Hexham with Little Bruce & Suggestion and Julie is taking Rayna’s World to Doncaster. Phil is conscious that this race may come a bit quick for the filly but it’s been soft at Doncaster including this morning and this maybe his last chance for a while to run her on an easy surface providing the sun hasn’t dried it out too much today. Phil’s  gutted to miss the race, he rates this filly highly,  but he can’t split  himself in two and he is required at Hexham with his two jumpers.

Little Bruce is chasing for the first time and although he is barely 15.1hh he has plenty of jump and Tiger Roll has proved that little horses can still make good chasers! Tommy Dowson rides, and he also gets the leg up for the first time on Suggestion due to Adam being on the sidelines with a fractured hand. You have to feel for Adam as he has ridden the grey in all his NH races so far, and is gutted to miss this chance on him today, hopefully it won’t be long before he’s back riding again.

We were delighted to receive the news that Lady Buttons has been nominated for Leading Chase Mare of the year at the National Hunt Breeders Celebration Dinner onMonday 21st May. We look forward to attending this prestigious event, and it’s a privilege for her to be named as one of the top three on the country. She’ll have stiff competition from Rene’s Girl no doubt who has been busier over fences than Buttons, but the only time they clashed we did beat her fair & square. It’ll be a superb night whatever happens!
