Tuesday’s News- a Monday double!

It was a top day for Phil & the Team yesterday with an across the card double at Thirsk & Southwell – Zig Zag and Captain Bob doing the honours to make it our 11th flat winner & 26th winner of the year so far under both codes Below is the first half of the double – the second to follow…

It was also a memorable day for  Jodie leading her  first winner up as she brought Zig Zag into the winners enclosure for delighted Owners Gary & Kate Capstick. We felt rather like Aiden O Brien with 3 runners in the same race at Thirsk and an excellent first time effort from Ice Galley meant that he filled the second spot behind Zig Zag. Richard Strauss who went off favourite for us became rather revved up during the long preliminaries and he finished mid field. It was noticeable how well all our three looked as the cameras discussed the horses before loading – their coats were absolutely gleaming ( thankyou Topspec for your wonderful food and supplement range) and there’s no doubt they are in excellent shape.

Zig Zag hardly wanted to pull up after the race for jockey Callum Rodriguez. Here is the Racing Post Analysis…

Zig Zag after his win

Phil did two trips there and two trips back to Thirsk yesterday as our green box was at Southwell with Julie leading up Captain Bob. He managed to pull over to watch his second winner on his phone, and PJ Macdonald was at his excellent best to keep Bob up to his work and record a first AW win for him at the age of 7.  We were so pleased for Malcolm Long & Colin Fletcher, both long standing Owners with us, and we were pretty happy  to keep 33% of the first place prize money as 1/3 of him is still ours! We knew he was a well handicapped horse and it was only a matter of time before he got his head in front, it was particularly nice also to see it happen in Colin’s pale blue & orange silks.

The previous day we had Sincereley Resdev & Mr Carbonator trying a trip for the first time. The latter pulled hard & didn’t stay but it was an improved performance from Black beauty ‘Sincereley’ who stayed on for 4th and pleased connections. He is pictured here back in the Winners Enc in 4th spot with Phil & his Owners grandchildren.

We thought some of you might like a look at Lady Buttons unraced Westerner half sister – she is going straight in foal to the French stallion ‘Spanish Moon’ ( sire of Mullins top novice mare, Laurina) and is a nice addition to our small broodmare  band here at Green Oaks. Hopefully one day she will be joined in the paddocks by her sister Buttons for Owners Keith & Jayne.

A date with this top young French Sire, Spanish Moon – a grandson of Sadler’s Wells.

Yesterday saw the first day at ‘big school’ for 3 year old ‘Abingdon Park’ ( Coco) who started the breaking in process and took it all in his stride. He is an impressive looking black gelding by Passing Glance and a full brother to classy bumper, Hurdle & chase winner, Avidity who was sold out of our yard after winning a Doncaster bumper for £81,000 and went on to a mark in the 130’s for James Ewart. Coco is an athletic youngster and we have high hopes for him – there are 2x 10% shares available to join Red Cap Racing in him – see our for sale page for details. We can thoroughly recommend this small friendly Partnership – they are long standing Owners with us.
