Thursday’s Runners & Sales

Despite having our new trailer we have had to book extra transport today as we have the Archipenko colt and Geordan Murphy at the sales at Newmarket as well as our two runners at Segefield and one at Redcar.

The gorgeous looking Archipenko 2 year old.

The gorgeous looking Archipenko 2 year old.

The Archipenko colt breezes this morning, he is a lovely genuine two year old who will make a really nice 3 year old too, he is not an early type, he is a fine long term prospect and just the sort of horse we would love to keep in the yard. The market is very much biased towards the sharpest colts and the stopwatch  at these sales so we will see what happens when he goes through the ring tomorrow. He is consigned by Malcolm Bastard for Owners, Castleton Bloodstock.

One of his Owners is former top Trainer, Jeremy Glover who has been telling me some great stories of both his Training Career and when he was a jockey – he rode in the National five times and this was his best finishing position, in Rag Trade’s winning year.

He tells me he brought L’escargot down at the first one year when his own horse fell ( usually a careful jumper but took it on like it was a hurdle), much to Tommy Carberry’s annoyance!

splash of verve

Jerry bought the Fast Company gelding, Splash of Verve at the Breeze Ups last year and he improved all last season with a smooth win on his final start at Wolverhampton. Its a hot race for  its type today and we expect him to come on mentally  for the race as well as being fit to do himself . It will be a first visit to the track for part Owners Sharon and Steve Harrison.

At Sedgefield we run Indalo Return’s and Episode- both horses will appreciate the fast ground and with the forecast now looking considerably brighter than it did yesterday, the ground should remain as we would like. There could be a few showers but nothing to really get into the ground, and finally Episode has the surface we have been wanting for him. He is a superb looking individual who has a date at the DBS May Sales, being part Owners ourselves we would love a bumper win on his CV before he goes, he already has two sound placed efforts and is the build to make up into a good hurdler/chaser. Adam Nicol takes off 3lbs and Steve Bocking, one of his other Owners represents us at the track today.

Our first runner of the day is the point winner, Indalo Return’s and he couldn’t look any better at home, his coat is gleaming and he has schooled well for James Reveley. We are hopeful a return to fences brings about an improvement in form and it would be good to get the day off to a winning start.  Good luck to all our Owners today and safe return for the horses.
