Thursday 30th April
A new video will be posted tomorrow.
We enjoyed taking former Owner Pat Ellwood up the gallops yesterday morning, she watched Factor Fifty canter up the 3f leading tomorrows bumper runner Episode – the Ellwood colours are now carried by Factor Fifty for the Topspec Partnership. Pat owned one of our first winners, ‘Thorsgill’ with her husband, Tom.
She was pleased to meet Steve Kettlewell again who used to ride some of her and her husband’s horses with success when they trained themselves. Steve is pictured here with Triple Eight and Istikaar.
Flat jockey Gary Whillans was in to ride out and he, Steve, Ross and Lauren took several horses through the stalls at first lot. Progress was made and all went smoothly.
At third lot, Simon and Sarah took Up the Bees and Stopped Out to the High Moor, Stopped Out (Monty) holds an entry at Doncaster if we get enough rain, he needs a bit of ease now he is in the veteran stage! Sarah tells me he pulled her arms out so clearly he is feeling fresh and well. The horse in front (Bumble) owned by Simon’s Uncle, Colin, went nicely and will have another piece of strong work on Saturday to put him spot on to run, hopefully at Hexham. He won on his bumper debut for us but had a niggly problem after his first novice hurdle so has been on the sidelines. It was breathtaking up on the High Moor, the view is incredible and the wind whistles even stronger up here too!
In the fourth lot it was the turn of Goldan Jess and Next Edition to do their first steady canter, Eddie was a bit more polite than Jess who pulled hard all the way up the 3f.
Another horse who is still in the slower stages of his fittening work is ‘Full Speed’ a three time winner for us and after a year off we are looking forward to getting him back to the track.he is pictured here with Lauren and was showing his well being as he jogged back to the yard.
Julie was riding the imposing Courtown Oscar, Phil has a novice chase for him at Uttoxeter in a weeks time providing we get a bit more rain, he is looking in great shape since his Carlisle win.
Call it On is pictured here with Brian Twomey up, ‘Colin’ has had several setbacks but finally seems okay and hopefully will be running again for us shortly.
