Philip Kirby Racing

Racehorse Trainer based at Richmond, North Yorkshire

Tuesday 24th September

Phil was pleased with the run from Kiwayu today at Carlisle (3rd)  – he possibly wants further than the just short of 1m 4f trip and the steady pace did not play to his strengths, he has won large field handicaps where they go a strong gallop from the off on his latest two starts.  Kiwayu has schooled well and although he may have one more flat run, expect to see him out over hurdles before long. he is pictured here leading the string up the 3f canter.

We are delighted to say that Avanos goes to his new home tomorrow – he is a lovely horse who will make a good hack and all rounder once fully recovered from his tendon injury.

butch newI got a lovely email from Corrina Hardcastle today, Danehillsundance’s now owner – he has settled to his new life amazingly well and this former ‘sharp as a knife’ gelding is a totally reformed character away and even has to be kicked on! he is pictured looking well in her paddock.

just a quick update on Butch, he is absolutely fine, sound and has put on a fair bit of timber over the summer. He’s happy as Larry in the field all day with his mates and practically needs dragging down to the stables from the field. He is so quick to learn and can do a reasonable novice test. We seem to of found the off switch and can’t find it again he is a total lazy toad and is quite hilarious.  Butch is loving life in the slow lane a little too much. You could honestly pop your Nana on him he’s a changed man! No one believes me that he was a grouch or has won a race let alone 6. He’s a lovely lad and very happy.

Its emails like this that make re-homing our ex racehorses so carefully very worthwhile.

I am also happy to report that ‘Ewe are Joking’ has settled in well, he left us on Saturday to live with Elle Houlden – she is delighted with him and its another happy story! Sadly he never ran for us but we have made sure he has gone to a good home.

I love this photo that Keith Foster took on Friday – it shows Phil doing a fair bit of concentrating!  (Working out what goes which lot and who rides…) With the amount of entries he has made for week ahead, he has to do plenty of that!

k1Tomorrow its Perth and Kyle James goes up with Harriet Bethell – they are taking  Chloe’s Image for the Juvenile Hurdle tomorrow, and Spin Cast will stay over night and run the following day over hurdles as well.  Chloe’s has schooled very well – but so did her half sister lady Chloe before her first run and Phil said she jumped that day as though she had never seen a hurdle!  Hopefully Chloe’s will remember what to do in the heat of the moment and a nice run with  a safe return would be great.

Chloe´s Image: Not as good as some of these on the Flat, but not by that much and arrives in good form having picked up a 1m2f seller when last seen; trainer is enjoying a tremendous season and a big run wouldn´t surprise on her hurdle debut.

She has won right handed this season on the flat at Ripon and it will be nice ground up at Perth.  Good luck to her Owners Gareth Fawcett and The Gathering (No, they are not a 70’s popgroup!)

And finally, one to make you smile.

What on earth is Adam doing to Lucky Sun??!
