Philip Kirby Racing

Racehorse Trainer based at Richmond, North Yorkshire

3rd Aug….

It literally rained here ALL day yesterday and the team did a great job of getting them all out and exercised despite the grim conditions. Soaked through to the unmentionables! They were rewarded with chips, gravy & curry sauce for their effort by Phil which was very gratefully received. Its a great gift to be able to work whilst doing something you love such as riding racehorses, but its not all sunshine and glory somedays, the weather can be very unforgiving…..even in August!!!!

Bulk order of Chips for the Kirby Crew!

We also received delivery of our shiny new 2 stall horsebox to replace the current one as it has done very many miles for us and is off to find a more modest job for its retirement from racing! Pictured below twining with each other in the miserable grey days rain, the old and the new!

We are definitely turning it up a notch now with the winter horses coming back in, with some old faces and promising new ones amongst them too. Here are a few you may recognise returning to work….

Parsons Meadow….convinced his tongue is too big for his mouth! A 2yr old by Masar owned by Simon Silcock

SHAMSA…..a lovely homebred 3yr old owned by John Hanson of Ace Bloodstock

‘TONTO’ aka My Strong Man……a familier face around Green Oaks. He came sooooo very close a couple of times last term for his The Platinum Partnership. A homebred who has been here all his life, it would be really great to see him deservedly get his head in front this season at last.

Golfe Clair……has previously ran very well with 2 wins and a 2nd out of his 4 runs for us. Fingers crossed he can get back in the winners spot this season again for owner Peter Rawcliffe

Defining Battle…..a 7yr old hurdler yet to run for us and owners Darren & Annaley Yates

Misemerald…..a 2yr old Zoffany filly, one we are quietly very excited about. She has won 2 and was only beaten a length overall for 3rd in her only other start. Hopefully a bright future for this gutsy filly who loves the game, owned by Joyce Porter – a patient lady very deserving of a winner.

PKR CLUB DAY

We hope all of you who attended our club day a couple of weekends ago enjoyed yourselves. There was lots to see and we hope you managed to get up close (if you wanted to!) and say hello to a few of the horses. Below is a clip of a selection of our horses along with Billion on the day as Phil talks about them and what they have done and are currently aiming for this season….

A kiss for Billion from rider Meg

Smiles all round as a club member collects her replica trophy with his winning jockey Shay, Billion & Maddi

We do have another PKR Club day on Sat 16th September for those of you who couldn’t make the July one (or want to come again!). Our 2 other club horses Martalindy and Green Oaks Top Cat will be in action by then too…..and the sun could even make an appearance if you are very lucky! If you are not a member there is still time to join and get your chance to come and see us all, just click on the tab at the top of the page and fill in the form.

It was Yorkshire Day on Tuesday and we were spoilt by partnership members Jeanette & Betty Joyce (again!) with some beautiful cakes……

A funny pic of best buddies Albert & Chico clowning around!
