A winning week – full catch up

Whoshotthesherrif wins the Bobby Renton at Wetherby

We’ve kicked off to a good start for the NH season proper, Whoshotthesherrif reminding us all how talented he is taking the big race of the day at the first Wetherby meeting. Ridden as usual by Sean Quinlan, Sheriff jumped superbly and repelled the late challenge to secure a narrow victory for his owners, Hambleton Racing. He’s jumping just seems to get better and better with experience, and judging on this performance he can land a valuable handicap on the right day.

He has come out of the race well, and can be seen here with his regular work rider, Ross Chapman who does everything with him at home.

We were back to the flat yesterday and another close victory, this time for the popular dual purpose Gelding, Lord Torranaga. He headed just up the road to our local track, Catterick, and under an excellent ride from young apprentice jockey, Ryan Sexton, he manouvered his way out in time to get his head in front where it mattered. Lord T has now won 4 races in the last 12 months, what a good horse he is for his Owners.

Happy scenes in the Catterick paddock

We have plenty of runners coming up including today at Kempton – last tine out winner WYE AYE for Joe Williamson & The Well Oiled partnership. He has a decent chance in a small but competitive field. He likes going right handed, and has been in good form since his win at Perth.

This week has seen the official retirement of star mare, Lady Buttons – in the words of her Owner Jayne…

Our daughter Izzy is incredibly lucky to be able to compete her in the future, and Jayne & grandchildren will love riding her too. There are no massive aims except to enjoy her, she has already been a complete legend but she is likely to take part in sone Racehorse to Riding horse classes and potentially some Eventing.

Its been foal weaning time and I’m glad to say its all gone smoothly so far. Desi, Flame & Leonora are in the barn together & Melody has had to be brave and go in a stable as she is heading off to her new home shortly.

Other news….Its been a busy week and I have been catching up on much needed emails, partnership updates & club news following the exciting but tiring week at Horse of the Year show. Our girls were lucky enough to qualify & compete on 3 days, and I was so pleased to watch our part time PKR member William Pittendrigh win the Workers & go Reserve Champuon, what an achievment ⭐️ I was also delighted to be asked to judge the conformation phase of Coloured Horses & Ponies on Sunday ( rolled over from last years Covid Cancellation) and found this stunning champion with my Co Judge Emma Burrows.
