Weekend News & runners

It’s a busy Saturday with 7 runners across 3 cards, a mix of flat & jumps and our 2 shortest priced runners being SEXY BEAST & ICONIC BELLE on the level at Doncaster.
Phil will be checking the ground before they run, it’s good to firm and we would have preferred a bit more juice in the ground, the rain forecast next week is just coming a bit late. Both like fast ground as long as it is safe with plenty of grass cover. Belle is looking to increase her winning sequence to 5 which is no mean feat… she is currently second favourite with an in form 3 year old filly ( receiving a big weight allowance) of Mark Johnston’s hot favourite. She was going to go hurdling to Perth but this small field fillies race tempted Phil to run, and her Owners are going to shout her home today.

Iconic Belle winning last time at Catterick

Master Newton is our only runner at Uttoxeter, he will be ridden by James Bowen and he ran a good race last time, being in the placings at Southwell. He’s going over fences next time, and that will be the job for this big attractive grey by Mastercraftsman who can go a good gallop.

At Hexham we have Sugar Butties having his final run for a handicap mark, Epsom des Mottes handicap chasing and our staying hurdling duo of Teki & Des in the Conditional jockeys 2m 7f race – its an 18 runner competitive handicap and both ours like to be up there.

Our 10 to Follow Competition concluded this week, and ALAN FAIRHURST was crowned the winner from ANN MINIFIE , with HARRY STEPHENSON 3rd & DARREN RILEY 4th. Alan has chosen an original painting of one of his horses as his winning prize so the free years share in a new NH horse for next season goes to Ann 🎉🎉 This has been a fantastically well received competition with loads of great racing banter on our dedicated Facebook page. All entry fees went to Charity and it’s confirmed as an annual event, we couldn’t have it any other way.

We’re feeling sad today at PKR as we say goodbye to long time team member Samantha McNicholas – Sammi as we all know her, and we wish her the very best while secretly hoping she decides to come back in the future 🤞🏻Sammi gives every horse she rides the same degree of attention to detail, she is brilliant with young ones and the best horses alike, and we will miss her very much, she had been a hugely valued part of our team. This video shows some of her favourite horses over the years, not least STARGAZER, LADY B, ICE PYRAMID, SKIP THE SCALES, DUBH DES CHAMPS, DECEMBER SECOND & RAYNA’S WORLD…..what a team, and she has started off the young ones Martalindy, Big Ears, Barley Breeze & Leopolds Rock so well this Winter as well as schooling up my coloured stallion from scratch. GOOD LUCK SAMMI, the door is always open here.

We have turned most our our horses out now that are having the Summer months not racing, still a small number to go. This video is a reminder of last year when we moved them to the ‘big field’ – not sure if this year will be as dramatic but at some point we will be turning the geldings into our jumps field again and we’ll capture the action on camera. This is always worth a second watch…
