A brilliant day at Catterick

He may be pony sized but Little Bruce has the heart of a lion and he outstayed his larger and lighter weighted rivals to win the Watt Fences North Yorkshire Grand National under 11 stone 10 on Thursday.

Little Bruce in top spot

Tommy has every faith in this little horse and they get on so well, his jumping was quick and assured, and he was always up in the van, travelling sweetly throughout the 3m 6f contest. Having sustained a niggling injury when coming 2nd at Cheltenham last April, he was a little late coming back in to work but he has returned better than ever and was winning this off a mark of 132.  A progressive stayer, there are lots of options for him Including The Eider and The Scottish National but there are only so many long distance races in a horse, and Phil will be careful to pick the right target for him.

It was a very special day for his Owners, The GPS Partnership, and they are so proud of their little horse. Watch the paddock videos and then the full closing stages here…

Some photos from our day in which L’Attendue also ran a good race for 4th in a 16 runner novices Chase, Gordalan was a solid 3rd in the Juvenile and Mr Carbonator a very close 3rd in a blanket finish at Newcastle.
