Philip Kirby Racing

Racehorse Trainer based at Richmond, North Yorkshire

Wednesday at Wetherby &Southwell

Fille d’Avignon who makes her racing debut this afternoon

9 runners today means we are going to be busy to say the least! 8 at Wetherby and 1 at Southwell…..and no surprises, it’s going to rain all day again…..But this is not going to dampen our enthusiasm at Wetherby with a mix of established winning older horses and 2 young Partnership horses having their first start for their Partnerships. We’ll list them in order of time running…

The Platinum Partnership’s ‘My Strong Man’ ( Tonto)

’Tonto’ was 4th on his Juvenile debut and has since acquired a lovely group of Owners who are looking forward to a jumping career with this son of Authorized. Like a lot of our horses today, we are not sure how they’ll cope with heavy ground, but he handled soft last time and he’s a tough 3 year old with a good attitude. He’d get weight from most of these if it was a flat race but jumping can put a different slant on things. It’s a hot  race but another promising run will please us. Adam rides.

Henry with Rayna’s World

Rayna is making her hurdling debut this afternoon and will be ridden by Tommy who has been doing plenty of schooling on her. We would have liked to head to Doncaster for the Mares novice but with meetings in jeopardy due to adverse weather at the weekend, she takes up this option today. Probably one for  the future once qualified for handicaps but she’s a good looking mare with some solid flat form.

NIVEN 1.50

The beautiful head of Niven

Niven ran as if he needed the outing last time. He’s back to a trip he has won over and he should handle the ground – he’s a horse who loved bowling along in front when he won at Hexham for Adam last season and we are hoping he can run a big race for his Owners this afternoon. It’s a tight betting heat.

Nicely Indeed with Victor

Zig Zag & Sam

These are two older horses who definitely go on the ground although you couldn’t call either ‘well handicapped’ at the moment. Nicely was still travelling well at Sedgefield last time when unseating, he is ready to try and make amends with Tommy back on board. Zig Zag has 10lb off with Tom Midgley in the saddle – a decent chance for our young conditional who is looking forward to a spin on this winning hurdler, you couldn’t rule him out.

THE RESDEV WAY 3.05 Southwell

The Resdev Way

A quick pause from the jumping action and what looks our best chance of the day with ‘Resdev’ in a 5 runner 1m 6f race round his favourite track, Southwell. We’ll be shouting him home from Wetherby & hoping he can make amends for his close defeat last time. He’s better with plenty of pace on, the small field maybe a negative so we’ll hope there is a strong front runner. Clifford Lee rides.

A trio of young NH mares to round off a busy days racing for us – and a fascinating clash in a race that is jam packed with 15 nicely bred jumping fillies. Two Thirty Yeat has the benefit of a run at Ayr and she will have learnt plenty from that experience. Milady Grace also has a run under her belt for her previous yard, but Fille d’Avignon is stepping onto a racecourse for the first time and she has been a long term project for her Owners, The Topspec II Partnership, carrying the colours of one of her Owners, Rhona Brewis. We can’t be sure how they will cope on this ground, but all of them are jumping mares for the future and will be looked after by Tommy, Adam & Sean. Not sure we’ll know where to watch with 3 of them to keep our eye on….

The very best of luck to all our Owners this afternoon and may their horses return home safely to Green Oaks 🍀
