Its an important day at Haydock, not least for The Gold Cup contenders, Mite Bite, Native River & Bristol de Mai – and we’ve got our own little chaser there having a big day – LITTLE BRUCE made such an impression last time out at Hexham that he takes his chance in this valuable 3m 4f prize (12.40) with £16,500 to the winner and he’s around a 7-1 shot on the books. Bruce has always suggested he may be a strong stayer in the making, but this is 4f up in trip and he meets some vastly more experienced rivals today, Tommy will be hoping he can get into the same sort of rhythm that enabled him to win on his seasonal debut.
We then have the quirky but very capable ‘SAKHEE’s CITY’ in a 11 runner field for the £31,000 to the winner Betfair Handicap Hurdle over 2m 3f.
He was a winner twice last term and deserves his chance in the line up of this hot handicap, it’s a track that he should appreciate although softer ground would definately have helped. Adam rides and knows him well.
Heading to Wolverhampton this evening are our flat runners, DAZACAM ( 5.45) and MAN OF VERVE(6.45) – the 4 year old filly makes her stable debut and has a tricky draw from stall 11 in this 5f event, she needs to bounce back to form.
Man of Verve, third in the betting, has a good draw in 2 and if getting his favoured strong pace could run a decent race tonight under jockey Adam Kirby. There are a couple of non runners and 11 go to post. We’d love to see him win for our good friends who own him in the Splash of Verve Partnership.
No runners yesterday but we were pleased to see STARGAZER get right back on track at Newcastle on Thursday – just beaten 3/4 length into 2nd in the ultra competitive 0-105 handicap under Andrew Mullen. While he’s fit and well he’ll be kept going for some decent AW prizes as he had a stop start summer campaign through injury. Midas Maggie also showed some encouragement on her first start for us.
