Philip Kirby Racing

Racehorse Trainer based at Richmond, North Yorkshire

Wednesday 31st – winner!

Richard Strauss wins at Catterick, great photo courtesy of Louise Pollard.

Our luck has returned and persistence  paid off for Richard Strauss who has been in the frame the last 5 starts and stuck to his task determinedly yesterday in the 2 mile handicap at our local track.   Ridden by Connor Murtagh claiming a useful 5lbs, Richard really toughed it out and he won in a photo by a neck to record a first win in the red and grey silks for Zoe & George Hassall.  He’ll be upped in trip over hurdles this Winter and Is a consistent  dual purpose horse for them to enjoy.

Over at Newmarket, Phil has purchased 2 horses so far on behalf of Owners – the 76 rated 4 year old mare ‘Lady Kyria’ and The 91 rated 4 year old gelding, ‘Magellan’ – both 3x winners to date and classy dual purpose prospects. The quality 3 year olds have been making massive money as usual, and stepping up to a 4 year old can just make that bit of difference to the prices. We see Good Time Ahead & I’m yer Man heading there today – sad to see them go but it’s the nature of the job when theyr’e fit and plenty more racing life in them for new Owners.

Today we have one runner, ‘Mr Carbonator’ at Nottingham and he will appreciate a bit of give in the ground. Good luck to his Owners and hoping for a bold show from this multiple winner.

Some photos from the last couple of days… it’s the most beautiful morning again here at Green Oaks and just half an hour ago we saw a lovely sunrise over the yard.
