The new Monmartre filly purchased st the Tattersalls Derby Sale this week

It was short sleeves in Ireland for Phil this week as he spent two days at The Tattersalls Derby Sale – the thermometer reaching as high as here, and no let up in sight! He is delighted with this purchase, a quality good moving filly who should make a smart NH prospect for her new Owners, Resdev, we look forward to hearing her new name. Castleton Bloodstock bought the Shirocco x  Gaspara gelding back in, and he will now be trained as a bumper horse, he looks a ready made Racehorse. Prices soared like the temperatures during the two days,  outstanding stores were again at record highs – we thought you might like to read the Sales report – it’s amazing that an unraced 3 year old gelding can make £365,000 with no future breeding prospects.

It’s exciting to think we have yougstock here by all these leading sires-  Martaline, Fame & Glory, Presenting & Kayf Tara and 2 Mares scanned in foal to Milan who had the top lot.

Our Presenting 2 year old, half brother to Lady Buttons

We have one runner today – stable debutante Trust  Thomas in the handicap chase at Cartmel. I spoke to his jockey Tommy this morning who says he is sure to come on a bit for his first run since a break but he is starting to look well handicapped. We wish them a safe trip round this tight track in the sunshine this afternoon.

The heat isn’t always welcome when riding out racehorses and our Team are all on first lot by 6 am to try to get everything ridddn before it becomes too warm. The field horses seem to be permenantly in the shade during the day, but there is a lot of early sunbathing going on first thing … some photos from our week in the Costa del Appleton..
