Wetherby winner

Asum leading into top spot

We were delighted to get a Boxing Day winner at Wetherby today for new Owners Bill Fraser and Adrian Pritchard – and we left it until the last to make it to the winners spot – nothing beats a Festive winner, we would have been dissapointed to go home without one.  Asum is a lovely big chasing type by Kayf Tara, having his first run for us since he joined us about 6 weeks ago. His future no doubt lies over fences but this was hurdles today, and he did it the hard way from the front, jumping boldly for Adam and holding on grimly to the line when challenged. He was led up today by Henry who does all of the riding on  him at home and has done a great job of settling him. Henry is looking forward to getting his Amateur licence out if all goes to plan at his course in February.

A change in riding tactics for Little Bruce saw him jumping smoothly and travelling well in the 2m 5f handicap hurdle,  but he found a couple too good and stuck on well for third in a competitive race. This was a sound performance and he rarely runs a bad race. Nicely Indeed travelled strongly but didnt get home, he may prefer better ground, a similar story for Bertie Blake in the novice handicap who didn’t back up his Doncaster run and is still a bit weak. Nemean Lion ran well for  a close up 5th and will now have a quiet month and come back for the better Spring ground, he has had a busy few months since winning two novices for us.

All the horses looked superb in the paddock and were a credit to Julie, Henry, Meg & Stacey who prepared them.

Tomorrow sees Pineapple Crush make her  debut for us for Owners Les and Maureen Richards. This will be her seasonal debut and its very hot looking 17 runner contest, but she should hopefully show some promise and we can look forward to a good Winter with her.
