Wednesday June 29th – & video
There has been so much going on at the yard I apologise for the lack of updates but with two runners up the road at Catterick today it would be great to get a winner at our local track. Ullswater & Whitchurch run in the same race, Whitchurch ran a bit flat when staying on late at Ayr most recentley – we expected a better performance that day so he is on a recovery mission this afternoon and both horses are more than capable of putting up a bold show.
Perennial ran his usual sound 4th but not quite in The first 3 at Musselburgh, wheras Goldan Jess, although running better, was flat out from the off and swallowed up in the home straight. Jess looks tremendous but has lost the speed he used to have now he is 12, he needs 2 and a half miles on the flat nowadays but there are no races like that about except at Ponty or Royal Ascot! He is so high over hurdles we are loathe to run him off 138 but he does hold an entry at Market Rasen In a 0-150 on Sunday, only 11 entries and Phil has also put Factor Fifty in the race. With his legs fine after Musselburgh and still in good heart he may get one more chance but he owes us nothing and all we want is to see the the old boy retire in one piece now.
The uphill gallop is almost finished – thank goodness – its looking great and everyone is itching to work up it. We have been having a quiet time with plenty of placed horses but not the winners we need on the board and once this gallop is in place we are going to have some well handicapped horses for the rest of the summer. Green Oaks is currently like a huge jigsaw puzzle with all the pieces gradually being put into place….a wonderful place to train but we will start seeing the right results from the horses once a few of the next pieces are filled in.
Our team are also looking forward to the new staff, tack and wash room being completed – the office is really progressing now and it wont be too long before Anna has a fine view down the gallops as she is behind her desk.
Here is a video taken over the last couple of days before the rain arrived- and it has been wet! It shows a lot of the youngsters and our Partnership horses, Factor Fifty, Next Edition and Enlighten Me.
