We thought he’d win a few days ago but ‘Bold Henmie’ made amends in great style at Wolverhampton tonight ridden by the excellent Phil Dennis. The second and hot favourite was trained just 500 yards away by Mark Johnston. Bold Henmie is a recent purchase for Faye Stephenson and Ben Lapham, and it was great to see him storm up the home straight in their new colours. Phil thinks this horse can also go on and win over hurdles but he will stay on the flat for now and try to add to his tally – he is just the sort of horse we have had a lot of success with in the past. We have his half sister at Dibble Bridge – an Arcano yearling owned by Castleton Bloodstock, a very smart looking chestnut filly currently FOR SALE to make an exciting 2 year old next year.
Racing Post commented:
BOLD HENMIE, second over 1m2f at Chelmsford on debut for this yard, kicked decisively clear before the turn in and was always going to find the line coming in time. He probably didn´t need to prove his stamina fully for 1m4f given the way the race was run, and the impression remains he can be equally profitably campaigned back down in trip whilst remaining at the right end of the handicap.
At Sandown, ‘Splash of Verve’ looked to be travelling like the winner before his run flattened out in the final furlong. His jockey reported the ground a bit dead but he stll ran a creditable 5th in this 0-80 and he’s been having a good time of it lately. he is on his way home with Phil now – its a very long drive, especially after his Chepstow drive yesterday and we’ree off to Perth at 5.30 am in the morning – Thank goodness we are having the winners!!
