Nearly a good run from Nojab Ltd’s ‘Birthday Guest’ as he led the field into the home straight at Catterick today but he capsized at the second last and although Adam and he were unscathed, this was a frustrating result. What it does show is that the horses are coming back into form nicely – a winner and close 3rd(20-1) on Monday, and he would have been in the shake up too at 16-1. Watch this space, we have given the horses an easy fortnight and it looks as though they are firing on all cylinders again.
This is what racing Post said about our 2 year old winner on Monday:
SPLASH OF VERVE travelled strongly and ran out an authoritative winner. Denied any kind of run before staying on into third over C&D 16 days previously, he was kept to the outside on this occasion and righted those wrongs off the same mark. Allowed to coast the final 50 yards, he can expect a fair rise in the weights once reassessed but remains unexposed and is from a yard well capable of conjuring considerable further improvement.
Thanks for the compliment – we like him a lot too, and both he and Perennial (3rd) go into their winter holiday after two improved performances with plenty to look forward to next year.
THis video was taken over the past few days – a mixed collection of the colt foals, Simon lunging yearlings and schooling sessions by Danehill Flyer, Cavalieri and Musikhani.
Our next runners will be at Wetherby on Saturday – Oscar O’scar and Givehimaglance are entered, both were placed on their last outing and can build on those performances.
Today we said goodbye to one of our all time favourites, ‘Jawaab’ who has gone on loan to Becky and Alan Dempsey – and is about to enjoy some hunting and RC activities. Becky knows all about Jawaab from our Castleton yard and she is excited about her new horse. Jawaab won two good races this year but has been given an honourable retirement as he is too high in the handicap to remain competitive as a 12 year old. Friday sees ‘Back to Paris’ go to his new home with Michelle Ross, hopefully this will be his forever home. Call it On will be going hunting shortly but that’s to make sure he qualifies for his Hunt Cert before going Hunter Chasing. He has the Aintree Foxhunters as a tentative aim if he qualifies.
We love this video of Colin (Call it On) and friend Next Edition (Eddie) a couple of years back. It reminds us not to get too complacent about the snow..we have been lucky the last few years but this makes us shiver!
And here is a video to make you all reach for your thermals and snow shovels…
Cool Operator is recovering at Castleton after injuring his tendon at Wetherby. Howard is taking to being stabled pretty well and has his support bandadge on to give his leg the best chance to heal properly.
