Sunday at York – updated
We had a double of 2nds today at York – not the result we wished for but all the horses ran well, Kiwayu running better than his place suggests as well as he was short for room at a crucial moment and stayed on again in a blanket finish. Dr Irv (12-1) was best of our duo in this race, travelling like the winner up the straight for Megan Carberry who gave him a well judged waiting ride but Entihal swept past him in the last half furlong and suddenly we had to settle for runner up. It was a very good run from Irv and he looked superb in the paddock – Sue had him looking immaculate and he duly won BTO , he is pictured here back in the winners enclosure, photo by Miles Johnson.
If shouting from his Owners could have carried him over the winning line then Next Edition would have finally won a race at York today as we all gave him a great shout home from the viewing balcony of the O&T – poor Eddie has now been 2nd in this race THREE times, twice in a photo finish. He was in front everywhere bar 10 yards from the line, and in a head bobbing finish the other horse probably just had the longer neck! We were all proud of his effort though, and he was led into the runners up spot by Corben. In a joint effort, Julie’s plaiting and Corben’s brushing also gave Eddie the BTO award in the race, he looked in great order.

Tomorrow its NOIR GIRL at Perth…with a 9.5 hour round trip to look forward to with this short priced favourite, nothing less than a win will be on the wish list for tomorrow! Good luck to her and The McBar paratnership, it looks a good opportunity for her to double up from her Huntingdon win.
Next Edition has been second twice at York for the Dibble Bridge Partnership – could today be third time lucky for him in his easy to spot yellow and red colours ? He runs in the last for his 20 Owners, Joey Haynes rides him and its an ultra competitive 12 runner handicap with Eddie featuring prominently in the betting at 6-1. His Thirsk 2nd has had a major boost with the winner ‘Epsom Hill’ scoring since at Newbury off 85 and going down by just 1 length off 96 at Haydock yesterday (it ran off 75 when beating Eddie ) – no wonder he couldn’t get close to it at Thirsk! Eddie remains on 76, incidentally his last winning mark, although he was claimed off that day.
We are double handed in the 2 mile handicap, not ideal but with Kiwayu just missing the cut at Haydock he has been re-routed here and it would be great to see either horse get a win on the Knavesmire today – Megan Carberry claims 5lbs off Dr Irv, she gave him a lovely ride last time when just beaten a length at Thirsk, and if she can sit and wait on this strong traveller he could be in with a good chance. Kiwayu has also been waiting for this 2 mile trip all season and with Philip Makin on board he also has a strong chance being cherry ripe for this weekend and off a decent mark now. Good luck to Irvine Lynch and Keith and Jayne Sivills with their two runners.
Back at the yard the two new DBS horses have settled in well, Phil happy with both of them cantering away the last few days. The big bay looks just like Stenna and is in fact even taller if that is possible. The chestnut by Sea the Stars is a real character in his stable and likes to hold the brushes in his mouth!
Photographer Mick Atkins has taken some really good photos of Factor Fifty winning at Market Rasen last weekend, visit his site to purchase (banner on right hand side of our pages) – here is one of FF jumping the last in the lead with Adam.
