DBS Sales – purchases! Updated.

imageBrunello ran another solid race today at Southwell for third place, he is proving a bit elusive to win with but his day will come and he is very consistent,  he takes his racing welland will be out again soon. Philip gave him a good ride, allowing him plenty of daylight and in the right place at the right time.

We didnt get quite as wet as we feared today at Doncaster Sales, the forecast was awful but the rain held off for most of the day. Several purchases were made, including two by our existing Owners, keith and Jayne Sivills and Irvine Lynch.

It was dark outside when the Sivills purchased the Darley colt by Cape Cross out of Anbella, a listed winner who has bred 3 winners from 5 runners, one of them Listed placed. This good looking colt has ran 6 times to date, being placed 2nd in France on his latest outing. he looks an interesting prospect for this summer.

War Lord is on his way back to Sharp Hill after not quite meeting his reserve so expect to see him back out over hurdles for us shortly, just waiting for some better ground. He behaved really well all day and was a pleasure to lead up.

Also heading home with us is the Lahib broodmare, Helen Wood, a fabalous looking dark brown mare, formerly trained by the Pipes and rated in the 130’s over hurdles. She is expecting a Malinas colt in the next fortnight and looks in great shape, she has one yearling to date, also by Malinas. Helen Wood has won 5 times including over fences, and she looks a most exciting addition to the broodmare band! She is also an Elite broodmare due to her rating achieved and gets a major concession on stud fees.

The final, and most valuable purchase of the day is the 3 year old Dansilli gelding, Istimraar, and we were so pleased to get him, being out of a £1.2 million Sadlers Wells half sister to Platinum, Manayer. She is out of Platinums dam, Dazzling Park ( a half sister to New Approach) and also a half sister  to recent multi million sale topper, Alluring Park. Manayer has so far bred 2 winners from 3 runners.

Istimraar is a very correct looking individual, classy and free moving and he won going away on his fifth and last start over 9f, he has been placed on 3 other occasions and looks an exciting improver with the scope to make a potential high class juvenile hurdler. He reminded us SO much of Platinum, which can only be a good sign!!

It was good to see both Julie Staveley  and Lesley Haw, former members of our team when we first started out in 2007- Lesley is going to be foaling Helen Wood at her yard, and Julie was enjoying a day out at the sales, i caught her going through the catalogue, no one is safe when the camera is out!
