Bushypark wins The ’Paris Pike’

What a super round of jumping we saw from Bushypark on his chasing debut at Musselburgh. Tommy had him in the box seat throughout, and he looked a natural, skipping quickly over his fences, and pulling away hands & heels at the line from a decent rival – the other two coming to grief early on. Phil & Tommy were delighted with him and he continues to be a real star for the yard. He’s fine today & next stop maybe Haydock over the festive period.

There is a back story to his win that makes the day even more special for us. Phil & I worked for Ferdy Murphy in 1999 when PARIS PIKE was in the yard, he was one of the most exciting horses at Wynbury Stables and being Ferdy’s Secretary at the time I possibly even rang Weatherbys with the entry for him in the Novice Chase he won at Kelso ( the race named in his honour that Bushypark won today). Ferdy would put pencil rings around the races to enter that day in the programme book and I would write the code next to them once I had rung them through. Big race entries were always nerve wrecking! No internet entries in those days! Paris Pike was a kind and gentle horse, a real gentleman, owned by another Gentleman, Sir Ivan Straker.
Very sadly Ferdy, Sir Ivan & Paris Pike now gone, along with the other good horses we were involved with at Ferdy’s – French Holly, Addington Boy & Paddy’s Return the most memorable. Days we will always remember & Ferdy was certainly a huge inspiration to us. He would have liked Bushy’s toughness i’m sure. Phil & I were really pleased to catch up with him in France a few years ago at the races, we had a good chat and it was great to see him again and although he wasn’t too well he was in good form and enjoying his life in France.
