In memory of Des
We had one of those awful but thankfully rare days at Hexham on Saturday when the horsebox came home one space empty and left us all feeling so sad. Dubh des Champs, owned by a small Partnership of kind & knowledgeable racing Owners, very sadly broke a leg on the flat in his hurdle race and had to be put to sleep by the vet team. Des had been with us 4 years and was a great character, much loved by our team and his Owners alike. He was big friends with Teki whom he was racing with at Hexham, they have spent several summers together. We can’t quite believe he is gone, he was part of the ‘fixtures & fittings’ at Green Oaks with his handsome head & distinctive amber eyes, and he will always be remembered. His win under Adam Nicol at Doncaster will live long in the memory!
He also ran some cracking good races in defeat. Here are some of our favourite photos of him.
