Today at the races

An important day for Suggestion at Wetherby
We have 6 runners this afternoon and some sound each way chances in competitive days racing at Wetherby & Aintree. The Des Champs Pship are excited to see ‘Dubh Des Champs’ back out on ground that is at least not heavy this afternoon – he lines up on the 1.10 for Tommy and he should have come on for his first two runs this Winter.

Dubh Des Champs & Sammi
Kicking off proceedings at 12.40 is the winning hurdling mare, L’Attendue in her first Novice Chase at Wetherby – she’ll be one for the good Mares chasing programme but needs at least one run in a novice handicap first and she should give a good account of herself if jumping well.

L’Attendeu by Oscar
She is followed by Dubh Des Champs (1.10) then the hurdling debutante, ‘Ravenscar’ at Aintree in the 2.05 – a good looking daughter of Helmet who has schooled well at home and will be ridden this afternoon by Colm McCormack. It’s a Listed fillies Juvenile and is a predictably warm event but a lovely fair track to make a start on.

Lucky Icon
We run two in the 2.15 at Wetherby – ‘Lucky Icon’ (Tommy) and ‘Suggestion’ ( Adam) and this is a significant race for the lovely grey who not many of you will know – lost an eye about 3 months ago due to a tumour, it was surgically removed and he has been a much happier horse since. Today will tell us if he still can cope with racing. He’s been fantastic any home and all his schooling has been great but you never know until the hurly burly of a race. Many horses have ran and won with just the one eye, but we are committed to his welfare and if he doesn’t enjoy it today he may have a new career as a staying flat horse, he is certainly bred for the job! His Owners will be watching nervously – we wish him and them the best of luck and safe return for Suggestion & Adam.

Our final runner of the day is ‘Red Dragoness’ pictured here with our daughter Indy before loading up.

Adam rides her and he was pleased with her debut at Aintree, staying on nicely in a mixed Junior bumper – it’s an ‘all fillies’ event today and she goes with promise at home.
And finally new mare ‘Winfola’ had a jumping session this morning and we were very pleased with how she went for her new Owners.
