Ferdy Murphy – goodbye to a Great Trainer

Phil & I were so sad  to hear of the passing of our old boss Ferdy Murphy this week. If it hadn’t been for us going to work for him at Wynbury Stables in 1998 we would never have met! He was a tremendous man to know and learn from, he gave young people good opportunities and was both fair and good fun to work for. We have some brilliant memories of our time spent there and although I was the Secretary at the time,  Ferdy was kind enough to let me lead up ARDRINA in the former Sun Alliance Chase at the Festival, a day I will never forget. He gave Phil a winner on his first ride – The Tollah – and he used to take all the team on some rare nights out. Phil and I met Ferdy at the sales in France a couple of years ago and it was really good to catch up and again learn plenty from him about the French Racing Ways, he was loving his life over there and the new challenges it brought. Neither of us were at Wynbury for more than 2 years but luckily we were in the era of French Holly, Paddy’s Return, Ballinclay King, Paris Pike  & Addington Boy – we left together and Phil then trained to be a Farrier and swiftly, a Trainer, but our time spent with him has had a massive influence on our life and we are both very sad that he has had to leave before his time. RIP Ferdy and our thoughts are with his family x

Ferdy with Paris Pike, ahorse I remember him getting very excited about when he came.
