Yorkshire’s Chasing Queen

‘Lady Buttons’ bids to win the Yorkshire Rose  Mares Hurdle today to add to her Yorkshire Vase Listed Chase win here over Christmas.  It’s a Grade 2 Event and at 9 years old she has 5 younger rivals snapping at her heels, but she has never been in better form so goes there with a favourites chance. It will be the first time that Tommy has ridden her in a race – all of her 11 victories so far have been with Adam Nicol, but a broken femur at Musselburgh has meant time on the sidelines. It will be difficult for Adam to watch today but he knows he’ll be back on his superstar when fully recovered and in the meantime, Tommy gets a great opportunity to team up with Buttons, bidding to win her fourth Listed Prize this afternoon at 2.40 Her career total earnings so far top £148,000  – what a fantastic achievement and we hope there are some more exciting days ahead before Buttons graces the paddocks – she is going to make the most beautiful broodmare for her Owner Breeders Keith & Jayne Sivills. We are lucky to have her unraced Westerner half sister here expecting her first foal to Spanish Moon and we also have her two younger half brothers who we hope will follow in her footsteps.

We are all really pleased to hear today that Nick Barret-Atkin has passed his Apprentice Flat Licence course. Nick has been with us full time since September and has been working hard to make sure he was ready for this licensing course which has tough standards.

Yesterday we saw a very good performance from Discay at Huntingdon – 2nd in a competitive handicap hurdle and ignored in the betting returning at 25-1 and 50-1 on Betfair! We’re not sure why he was this price after winning last time, but Discay didn’t know he was unfancied, he ran a stormer with Tommy on. Julie had a long drive back from Huntingdon but at least he had ran really well, it always makes the journey easier to bear!

Races report tonight – let’s hope it’s a winning one 🍀
