Friday at Doncaster
With 4 runners at Doncaster, Phil and the Team will be having a busy day with consecutive races. It won’t be long before Pullman Brown lines up in the Novice at 12 noon, this is his third start and with luck he will be able to contest novice handicaps soon. He’s a buzzy horse and needs to learn to settle before he’ll stay efficiently, Henry does a sterling job on him at home.
We’re not quite set up with the new P’ship name but next time you will see Dubh Des Champs race for The Des Champs Pship and the colours of one of his Owners, Rob Jackson. His group of Owners is now complete and many of them have gone to watch him today in the 3 m handicap hurdle. We’d have preferred softer ground but the trip will help and he’s out of a Presenting mare so should handle it. We also have Minstrel Royal in the same race, the handicapper is very slow to ease him but he does need help. He’ll be ridden prominently and we think he’ll be more at home on this sounder surface than at Ayr last time. Nathan Moscrop takes the ride.
Rounding off our quartet is the 3x winner last season, Skipthescales. He is a mud lover and we expected it to be softer considering the amount of rain that has fallen at Catterick not so far away, but he is ready to run and has schooled well several times now, he’s not flamboyant but seems to get from A to B efficiently. This is first time in a Chase for him and we think he’ll make up into a good staying handicapper and he copes with marathon trips which will give him some good opportunities in the future. Adam has won on him and will be keen to add to it with another!
Later – news report from the races plus our belated look at our young team – both horses and new staff.
