Worcester Winner & Chester Cup Preview

There are 17 runners to contend with tomorrow plus 2m 2f on turf round one of the countries tightest tracks – no wonder the Chester Cup is a unique test of horse & jockey and Stargazer is generally priced around the 8-1 mark and in the top 3 in the betting. Instead of trying to second guess what will happen we asked Stargazer himself what he thought about his chances….

Of course we would love to land this big prize for Zoe, Neil & George Hassall, and as we still retain 50% of him – for ourselves too, it’s a huge day for the yard. Whatever happens we have a classy stayer on our hands and we will enjoy the season with him, that’s for sure. He has that essential great draw in stall 4 and a good jockey on him – Kevin Stott – the ground will suit and his Owners are from Chester! All the right ingredients, let’s hope it all comes together tomorrow🍀

Stargazer winning last time out at Newcastle but he lost the race in the Stewards room

Pumaflor is our second runner of the day, he runs in the last at Chester  and he will appreciate the better ground as it was heavy last time we saw him at Haydock. This is a significant step up in trip however, and we will see if it suits when he goes into unknown territory!

Our two horses will be driven in style and comfort to the races tomorrow as our new Theault horsebox from Atacanter arrived today. It looks like the old one but has a bigger, roomier back for the horses and some state of the art gadgets in the front for us! Phil is under strict instructions from Julie not to leave sweet wrappers or MacDonald’s bags in it, and my dogs ( and possibly kids )are strictly out of bounds!

We’re celebrating tonight after a gritty success from Rock of Leon at Worcester today – Nathan Moscrop has built up a good partnership with this big gelding and this is his second win on him now – he was a horse a lot of people had given up on and came to us after a bargain buy and has grown in confidence month by month. He is perfect for summer hurdles and Phil may revert him to the flat at some point too, he has a workable flat mark.

Rock of Leon

Rocky was led up today by Jodie who is one of our  newest and youngest members of staff and Phil has just told me what an excellent job she did of preparing him, he looked very smart in the paddock. Jodie has recentley enjoyed her first trip to Ireland with Julie & our two Punchestown runners.
