The neck rugs are still firmly done up as although we saw some sunshine today, the cold weather is lurking around the corner! We had a day without runners but enjoyed some of our Owners visiting, and they had travelled a long way to see us – Scotland and Northamptonshire! We welcomed a new 3 year old by Mount Nelson for Elwick Stud – a smart recruit for bumpers when he is ready, and we’re still counting the days until Marnot Bay or Lady Chloe produce the first foal of 2018…..our money is on Chloe who has now moved into the foaling unit at Grange Stud where she is booked to have a date with Milan in coming weeks. He has already visited Helen Wood who we hope will scan in foal to him in about a fortnight. Pickworth has arrived at Rathbarry Stud and she is going back to Shirocco. The youngsters in the barn are looking eagerly at the fields when we have the big doors open but they’ll have to wait another month for everywhere to dry up and green up before they go out for the summer. Pictured here is Lady Buttons half brother by Presenting – he’s a gorgeous 2 year old.
A couple of foals enjoyed turnout today though- the Yeats and Walk in the Park colts…they are both real movers.
We were pleased with the 3rd place from Bitumen Belle yesterday, she looking booked for 2nd until just tiring late on. She jumped very well for a first time out novice and she looks up to winning a mares maiden or novice judged on this first start over timber.
Aoologies for not reporting the winner of our Cheltenham yard Tipster competition – we sometimes get mixed up with what has been put on Facebook. The worthy winner was Simon! He was delighted to put Phil in his place – and so were Sarah and I on joint second, Phil narrowly back in 4th 😂 and NOT regaining his title!
Some further photos from the yard today –
