Captain Bob – an interesting new recruit

Green Oaks sees a new horse arrive tomorrow, the 6 year old Dark Angel gelding ‘Captain Bob’ for whom 33% or 66% is FOR SALE. A third has been taken already by an existing Owner. Phil claimed the 4 time winner for £8000 plus expenses and he is for sale for exactly this price, split 33 or 66%. Captain Bob was a running on 2nd tonight for an inexperienced jockey, his first time in a claimer in his career, running well and trying all the way to the line. He has won handicaps at Newmarket and Windsor this year, and runs off a mark now of 72 ( previously as high as 89) . He is a model of consistency – from 8 runs this year he has been 1st,2nd or 3rd every time bar his first attempt on the beach at Laytown. He has run in high level handicapping company in his career and was 2nd in a class 2 Handicap at York off 86. Most importantly, he is out of the same dam as CALL IT ON, a really tough dual purpose horse for us who was also bred for a mile or less but thrived when up in trip and even ended up staying 4 miles over fences! The dam has bred another hurdle winner too and Dark Angel, as well as being a top flat sire is getting some serious jumpers – Guitar Pete being one of them, they do seem to stay. Captain Bob ran some of his best races over 7f as a 3 & 4 year old although campaigned over 5& 6f of late – and we will be trying a longer trip plus schooling him over hurdles. He goes on the slow surface at Southwell and has won on soft and good to firm- he looks just the type we like. It was a decent claimer – 4 of the runners were claimed tonight from it.
