A smooth win by Lady Buttons – video

What a mare! Lady Buttons is super smooth winning at Doncaster under Adam Nicol

Congratulations to Keith and Jayne Sivills, her Owner/Breeders – This was their mare’s third win in a row,  setting her up for a tilt at the Haydock Mares Handicap Hurdle Final in April – a £50,000 bonus race over 2m 3f. Adam has built up a great partnership with her and she really did look in a class of her own in this Mares race,  always having her  her four rivals comfortably held. She looked tremendous in the paddock and Julie won BTO for her efforts.

If you haven’t see it..here is the video including the interviews. We particularly like the part where Phil agrees she should actually get dropped for this win rather than go up…not sure the handicapper will take the same view though?

The Racing Post analysis reads:

Distance increased by 8yds. They finished in market order, the winner completing a hat-trick.

LADY BUTTONS, up 12lb in her bid for a hat-trick, did it cosily, making all and meeting no serious challenge. She’s a rapidly progressive mare.

Taweyla hadn’t run since May and this was a satisfactory return against a bang in-form rival.

Kalaniti, outclassed in a Listed event last time, could have been expected to fare better back at a more realistic level. [Mark Brown]

QUOTES: Lady Buttons was a good bumper mare but then suffered an injury. She will go for the Challenger Mares Hurdle at Haydock on Easter Saturday, if it was decent ground, she is fine as long as there is a bit of give in it -Phil Kirby, trainer

Of course every time she wins we are that little bit more gutted we lost her dam, Lady Chapp this winter. Thank goodness she left us two fantastic looking colts in ‘Robin des Chapp’ (By Robin des Champs) and ‘Stanley’ (by Presenting). We would love to sell them to stay in the yard and hope that they can go on to follow in Lady Buttons footsteps.
