In Focus – back in work

Apologies for a quiet few days on the updating front but we have a new video being posted in the morning  and three runners  tomorrow to look forward to tomorrow – Improved over hurdles at Doncaster (Adam Nicol) and What’s Up Walter and Good Time Ahead (Paddy Aspell) at Wolverhampton, all of whom feature on tomorrows video. Julie and Katie are taking our All weather runners, and this is all about another learning mission for What’s Up Walter who needs three runs to get a handicap mark, he will struggle being competitive in maidens until he reaches his grade. Good Time Ahead has been  coming back to form and this enthusiastic gelding won’t be far off winning soon, it would be good to get another winner in Phil’s green and yellow Topspec colours.

Improved has dropped to a competitive mark now and is priced up as second favourite at Doncaster tomorrow – its the first time Adam has been back on him for a while and hopefully we can see him get his head in front and break his maiden tag over hurdles, he should appreciate some decent ground.

Lady Buttons ran an encouraging race at Newcastle yesterday, finishing nicely in 3rd. It can take them a while to recature their form after a leg injury. She is fine today and thats another big hurdle out of the way. Bitumen Belle was a bit stiff this morning and found the ground pretty tiring yesterday on her debut, it was an attritional bumper and they went a good gallop.

Wednesday sees Little Bruce entered at Hereford trying to take advantage of a penalty instead of the

hefty 11lb rise he would have in future. Its a boys race so Tommy would be claiming off him and if he can score a hat trick he could go again without a penalty but four quick runs is a big ask, its unlikely this wouild be attempted, we will get Wednesday over with first. Courtown Oscar and Cleve Cottage are also entered and all want soft ground. Little Bruce’s close and talented relative ‘Augusta Kate’ fell

over hurdles today, but was ok. She really does look just like him.

The flat horses are coming back into work and its all go at the yard…two year olds now riding again after their December break and soon it will be time for the mares to go off to stud to foal. Musikahni is booked into Authorized, Helen Wood to Blue Bresil and Lady Chloe is undecided yet.

Our next  filly to run will be Ownaracehorse and The Topspec Partnership’s ‘Northern Girl’ who has been working nicely at home and is getting an entry in the 1m 6f 4 yr old fillies bumper at the next Wetherby meeting.

Yellow Admiral - a good new home

Yellow Admiral – a good new home

Yellow Admiral went to his new home today – he has gone to be a potential eventer for the Armitage family near Thirsk, and we think this will be a good career for this scopey gelding who just wasn’t sharp enough for racing. As usual these young sound potential event types are snapped up straight away and he was only for sale for 24 hours before he was bought and paid for. We wish them the best of luck with him.

Also leaving us today was filly ‘Enlighten Me’ who has gone to be a

broodmare for Helen Warrington from Malton – an excellent home who plan to breed show horses and ponies from her, and will show her in hand as a brodmare.  We send a lot of time finding these genuine homes and it gives us a lot of pleasure to see the horses go on in second careers. Our Ex Racers page is due to be fully updated in the next few weeks.
