Happy New Year

Happy New Year to all our followers

We hope to kick off to a great start with a winner at Ayr – we have 3 runners all ridden by stable jockey Adam Nicol –  Little Bruce, Transient Bay and Suggestion – and its fingers crossed the course passes the 8.30 inspection as we will already be a couple of hours down the road by then! No one likes turning round after an early start. We also see this as a good chance for all our runners who should like track and ground tomorrow, Little Bruce has been in good

form since his win at Wetherby, and as he is likely to go up about 7lbs he will neither be well in or badly in carrying his 7lb penalty, but is ready to run again and hopefully progress with this staying test on softer ground than he encountered last time. He is beautifully bred by Yeats out of the dam of unbeaten top Irish mare  Feathard Lady – and he is very closely related to another  top irish mare ‘Augusta Kate’ who is out of Feathard Lady and also by Yeats. Little Bruce is also a full brother to our dual winner ‘Bruce Almighty’ who left us last year. He is a likeable little horse who does everything with enthusiasm but is only diminuitive in stature – probably the smallest jumps horse we have trained to win.

Transient bay looking fit

From a good little ‘un to a good big ‘un – Triple winner Transient Bay should have come on a lot for his first run of the season and has a chance in the 3 miler if staying the extra trip – his best form was around 2m 4f last year but we had to split our two horses up and he takes his chance over the longer trip as a warm up for his first novice chase, all being well  back here in 2 weeks time. Phil was out on him early this morning (photo above)  and declares him in good shape for his owners, The Waking Ned Partnership.

Our final runner will be in the bumper and we are writing off his last run at Market Rasen – Suggestion is a capable individual and his win , albeit in a 2 runner race, was no fluke. He is a big, rangy grey who will only get better as he matures and fills his frame.  We are a bit in the dark as to wether he will handle the ground, but his action suggets he will – and he does carry a penalty, but he is fit and ready to run.

Our horses at work this morning – North Island leads Cavalieri, Bertie Blake and Suggestion

Our home and pony yard has been busy over Christmas and New Year too with festive showjumping yesterday  and lots of competitive against the clock rounds! Usually competing in show and working hunter pony classes  than show jumping we maybe aren’t the quickest but typically as chldren of a racehorse trainer they are always keen to kick on and go as fast as they can!
