Its been an unseasonably warm day today and the unclipped horses were a bit hot on their roadwork up the hills at Castleton. It looked a bit cooler and cloudier at Middleham and I was sent some photos of several of the horses at exercise. Improved ( Prince) is looking really well, he has tightened up In the last few weeks and Phil is looking to run him in another bumper before going novice hurdling. He wouldn’t want it too soft so we won’t be waiting too long to see if he can make it two from two but bumpers are hard enough to win without a penalty!
Iftikaar was looking good, he is pictured here after exercise with New member of staff, Katie Perkin on board. He had no luck in running last time out but has won two nice races this summer. Katie has been with us the last fortnight and its good to have her and another new face, Sam Welton on the team. Sam brings plenty of experience with him and is a valuable new work and schooling rider.
This is a first photo of smart new horse MOSHE that Phil claimed at Catterick last week. He is an 80 rated 4 year old to run in some of the top end flat handicaps and we like him a lot, he is a lovely looking individual who has a look of Platinum on this photo. Platinum is still just going on the walker at the moment but it wont be long before he starts being ridden out.
Another nice young horse who has just started filling his rangy frame is the 4 year old, Sakhee’s City. He has been second in a couple of bumpers and schooling has started well as he will be making his novice hurdle debut shortly.
Its a busy day tomorrow with two runners in the same race at Southwell: Factor Fifty and new horse, Nautical Nitwit who has been given a mark by the English handicapper of 118 we think this is pretty steep. Frankie ran well at Huntingdon last time, this is a furlong further and he’s won round here, he would have a very sound each way chance with Adam Nicol on board.
Phil will be saddling up Courtown Oscar for his seasonal debut at Carlisle in the 3 m 2f handicap chase. He will have left a bit to work on as this is his first start but he is fit to do himself justice. Courtown has won his last two ( in the Spring) and he’s a gorgeous big young horse. Richard Johnson gets the leg up with usual pilot James Reveley unavailable. Not a bad substitute! With three chances tomorrow we’re hoping to get another no. 1 on the board by tomorrow night.
We purchased a new filly yesterday, the two year old Native Ruler half sister to Agglestone Rock – a 2017 bumper prospect but she already looks the part, a big rangy free moving filly out of Royalty. We are very pleased with her.
The flat yearling fillies are looking in top order and have started with their breaking tack on. The two Castleton Bloodstock fillies are pictured first, by Equiano and Arcano.
She is a short coupled, strong powerful filly with a really good backend and deep girth. In Phils words, she looks a proper racehorse.
And last but not least the Shades of Grey Partnership’s ‘Enlighten Me’ , a sister to one of Irelands nicest 2015 2 year old colts, Mint Chai. Shares available at £1000 all in for 2016. An early well bred two year old type. A perfect Gift for Christmas😉 She’s another compact, deep chested filly with a good stride.
