The yards runners continue in excellent form, just hitting the cross bar twice in the last couple of days with Goldan Jess and Bold Henmie. The latter gets a chance to redeem himself quickly, he’s back in at Wolverhampton over a longer trip on Friday and should have a strong chance of making amends, Phil Dennis claims a valuable 7lbs off him. Also on Friday is Splash of Verve who is upped in class at Sandown but figures prominently in the betting. This right handed track and uphill finish should suit and we are excited about his chances, he went up 4lbs for his photo finish 2nd last time.
Today We have two runners – first up is ‘Call it On’ at Chepstow, a
track we don’t usually take runners to for obvious reasons – its miles away! But he’s mine and Phil’s and theres not many extreme staying races like this on Soft/ good to soft ground in August so off we go with our old boy Colin, and hoping for another win from this dour stayer. He runs at 5.05 and then at 7.10 its Triple Eight at Hamilton over 1m 4f, Phil Dennis claiming 7lbs. Phil would know Triple well from riding him when he worked for us, he is a horse that needs a strong pace in a race and then his stamina kicks in late on. He has won a good race already this year, and he has another chance today at a biggish price. Good luck to his Owners Theredhotgardogs.
News from the yards….it was great to see this photo of Cleve Cottage out on the gallops having his first canter yesterday. Cleve has been off for 18 months with a tendon injury but he has been given every chance to come right and is looking tremendous. He looks every inch a Presenting horse, and you wouldn’t find a better looking individual in the paddock for the Gold Cup. I imagine he will be going novice chasing this winter and if the wheels stay on he’s an exciting prospect.
At Castleton I took these photos of the yearling fillies, we have four at our home yard and they are all looking big and well.
Ex Racer News:
Word of Warning (Smokey) has been having a great show season and won at this big Wales and West Hunter Show last weekend, he is pictured here on his lap of honour. He is on lease to Claire Poole And she is doing a top job with him, he is very happy.
We were pleased to see this photo of the great character ‘Acknowledgement’ who has a fab home up north, he is starting British Eventing and with his straightforward attitude he is going to have a good second career, his brother has become a grade B showjumper so talent for other jobs runs in the family.
We have found a fabalous home for recently retired Stormy Morning, he goes to Christine’s Staffords near Newark in mid- September. He is pictured here eating his carrotts delivery from Betty and Jeanette Joyce. Its a full on job finding the right homes for these older boys, we have two more good homes to find yet, you have to be so careful where they go.
