Philip Kirby Racing

Racehorse Trainer based at Richmond, North Yorkshire

Wednesday at Catterick

Just the one runner again today but plenty of entries for the next 7 days with recent winners Mr Chuckles, Splash of Verve  and Triple Eight all entered back up. We also have Quadriga back on the sand at Southwell and he has plenty of winning form round there. The mood on the yard is buzzing and the horses couldn’t be looking better. We also have a new addition to the yard – the flat handicapper , Bold Henmie who joined us from Ireland, Phil collected him from Beverley on Monday. We may not add to  the scoreboard again today with Birthday Guest, a winner in Germany in the past and he also ran in the ski race at Sy Moritz!!  The ground will be a bit on the quick side for him today but with the form of the horses so much better he should run a sound race before switching to hurdles which he seems really enjoy. This is his first run for 130 days  and although he may not be the sharpest in the world he is one of Phil’s favourites as he is such an easy kind horse, he is pictured here up on the gallops riding out with Phil and Izzy.

raceIzzy is back on the gallops on Friday as she is going to ride 11701171_10205707708984812_2134059250011391386_nthe latest addition to the team, the potential shetland racer ‘Midget Gem’ who joined us yesterday on 2 weeks trial. He is a handsome (but still chubby) bay and white shetland and Izzy can’t wait to try for the Shetland Grand National at Olympia in 2016. Its a cut throat business trying to qualify, only 12 make it to Olympia and many are sons and daughters of jockeys or Trainers, they must need to have that mad edge to them! She had a practice last week at a training centre (pictured left) and has never stopped talking about it since! On the right is Midget Gem who we look forward to training up for her.
