Philip Kirby Racing

Racehorse Trainer based at Richmond, North Yorkshire

Uttoxeter Winner

imagePrince has more than lived up to his name today…it took a lot of time to come up with IMPROVED out of the mare SHOW POTENTIAL by RAINWATCH. He was bred by best friend Sue Heath who we bought him from as a 4 year old, and we both trained the mare and have also bred a foal from her last year, a Josr Algarhoud half brother. Prince spent time with us as a young horse and as a foal at the Kirby house in Ireland, he is a real part of the family and for him to win his first bumper in such good style by 4.5 lengths, making all, he has really given us a day to celebrate. Adam gave him a perfectly judged ride from the front, and he was going away again at the line, beating some fancied horses  from top Southern yards. This was our 14th bumper winner, and when you think we are doing it with horses all less than £20k most of them, it shows Phil’s skill at producing these young horses to be at their best on the day. Nor does he do too much with them, there is always plenty still to work on, and that is very much the case with our winner today.

Stable Amateur Ross Turner  gave Rocky Two a good ride at Catterick this evening but he is a hard horse to predict and after being keen for much of the race he didn’t find off the bridle as he should have done. Ross has really been working on his strength as a jockey and it showed here, he looked good in the finish.
