Wednesday’s News and video
We are double handed at Doncaster tomorrow in the 5.40 Amateur Rider 2 mile race
We would love Ross to celebrate his first winner tomorrow, particularly aboard our own ‘Call it On,’ but we
would be more than happy were he to finish 2nd to the talented but quirky ENZAAL who has plenty of ability and just needs to put his best foot forward under Cathy Walton in the same race. Racing Post prices them both up at 14-1 and its a competitive 14 runner affair with recent facile winner HOT SPICE the hot favourite, a horse we had ticked off to buy at Tatts a few years ago when we came back with Brigadoon instead – a horse who won a few good races for us.
It’s Tattersalls Hores in Training Sale tomorrow and a winner for us, O’ly Roccs heads there and likely onto a new home. He is in great order and looks tremendous, we will be sorry to see him go and recommend him to anyone wanting a consistent and genuine flat handicapper. Its
an early start from Castleton with him tomorrow and a busy day at the Sales.
11 year old GOLDAN JESS schooled today under his regular partner Kyle James, who else would be right to team up with our evergreen legend? Kyle has been coming in regularly to ride him and Jess was spot on at his hurdles today, almost a year since he left the ground but he doesn’t forget. We thought you would like to see him in action!
ON a lighter note….Phil was quick with his camera and thought this photo of Adam in what can only be called ‘PRAYER TIME’ was hilarious, but perhaps it was all worth it as Adam rode a big priced winner over hurdles yesterday in a driving finish. Sadly it wasn’t our horse but we still gave it a good shout home.
Earlier in the week it was our Secretary Anna Dent’s Birthday and in a move to gain real brownie points, Phil decided to ‘make’ (in a broad sense of the word) a cake for Anna, and this is what he came up with. Even her daughter and cake maker ‘Megan’ was impressed with this unusual arrangement.
Its been a MEDIA CIRCUS at the yard this week as Brian Toomey is proving more popular than most Hollywood stars – he will have to get some bodyguards soon…The Mirror, The Yorkshire Post, The Times, The
Guardian, The Racing Post, BBC, Channel 4, RTE, Sporting Life, The Morning Line, Breakfast News, Sky news, Sky Sports, Attheraces, Radio this that and the other….even THE SUN (I think) the list goes on…..they all want a new slant on his remarkable story, and yesterday ‘The Times’ took themselves to Redcar beach photographing him with his
Southwell mount ‘King’s Grey’ and Julie with the York and Beverley entered ‘Pass Muster’ .
Brian reorted back that the horses loved the waves and had a great time, it really freshened them both up for their races coming up at the weekend. King’s Grey (Christian) is top rated in his race by some way, its just a question of keeping him spot on during the last days leading up to it now, he is as fit as he can be and looks tremendous..
Pass Muster has a first preference at York but may not make the cut and there is a valuable staying race at Beverley 4 days later that will be a good back up plan. He had no sort of run last time at Musselburgh and we are hopeful of a big run from him on his second start of the year.
Partnership News:
Dibble Bridge P’ship Owners – i have emailed you all tonight about ‘Next Edition’s’ Wetherby entry, please tell me if you hve not recieved an email. As most of you now know, I (Pippa) am having hotmail email issues and when replying to an email from me it is not being directed back but going to a different account, wakingneed1@hotmail.com instead of wakingned1@hotmail.com. Please get in touch if you have emailed in and not received a reply as I may not have got it. As long as you type in wakingned1@hotmail.com it works, but if you just ‘reply’ it sends it to the wrong address.
Topspec Partnership – Frankie is fine and its onwards to the next race in 4-5 weeks. I will be informing you all of his new handicap mark next Tuesday.
Philip Kirby Racing Partnership – ‘Tara Time’ is stepping up her work and really impressing as a lovely mares prospect. There are four shares in her left to sell at present, it won’t be long before she makes her debut. See FOR SALE page for her impressive pedigree – and she floats up the gallop very easily.
Waking Ned Partnership – Just 2 more weeks of leisure time for Stenna before he starts his ridden work. He will be fit as a fiddle earlier this year! He is currently lazing around the paddocks at Castleton with his best friend ‘Dibble’.
Shads of Grey Partnership – ‘Enlighten Me’ continues to mature into a lovely looking filly and is one to look forward to on the flat as a 2 year old next year. She can be seen at Castleton.
