Monday’s News & video

A new video from last week….

imageHopefully everybody has managed to stay aboard their horses at Middleham today – its been absolutely blowing a gale and raining as well, really difficult conditions for everyone to work in. Monday is a fairly quiet day as most of the horses have Sunday off and they are eased back into work at the start of the week. We also don’t have any runners until Friday when we have a few entered at Musselburgh, hoping for not too much rain so we can see Episode back for his second start in a bumper. Also entered is Call it On for the 2m4f handicap hurdle – his comeback after over a year off, plus the interestingly named ‘Jessie Pinkman’ who will mean something to those of you who are Breaking Bad fans, Phil and I included (rapidly working our way through the third series on Netflix), we had to smile when we were told what his Owner was going to name this Duke of Marmalade gelding.

This weeks sees  some of our summer horses coming back into work – Indalo Returns is back for a new campaign, and due to be collected is Willie, Iktiview’s now 4 year old full brother for Eastview Thoroughbreds. Man in Black and Rumble of Thunder are back into light work, Platinum will be doing a month on the walker, Full Speed is going to to be doing 6 weeks roadwork at Castleton. Chloe’s Image has re-joined the team at Middleham as a suitable eventing home has not been found – she is now cantering ahead of a return to the flat to see if she can enhance her broodmare potential. She is available for free lease for 2015 – 25%.50% or 100%.  Gareth Fawcett’s 4 year old well bred KAYF TARA filly is also available for free lease or 50% sale – she has had a winter break and can come back into work at any time. She is a good mares bumper prospect.

Saturday saw Aniknam come 3rd at Wetherby – a decent run in what promises to be a pretty hot novice, he would have appreciated softer ground but the wind really dried it up. This run qualifies him for the EBF Novice Final at Sandown and that will be his target ground permitting. Birthday Guest ran a better race in the later handicap hurdle, he led for a long way before getting tired up the straight, finishing 5th, beaten 19 lengths. He is a likeable little horse but he still needs some help from the handicapper, we will see what Tuesdays marks bring. Both Lady Buttons and Aniknam will get handicap marks tomorrow, and they may well be heading for novice handicaps next time.

Lady Chapp has made it safely to Glenview Stud in Ireland so she can foal there before being put back in foal to either Presenting or Robin des Champs. Lady Chloe is heading to France shortly to visit Authorized and foal our Shirocco foal she is carrying. Helen Wood’s filly, Ruby, had a tidy up ahead of her impending sale date at DBS in late January. To us, she looks just like a little Sprinter Sacre!
