Thursday 5th November
Its been a day of moving in-foal mares and out of training horses to our yard at Castleton while we had a day without any runners. The mares are all late coming in but we have had some good weather and they are looking well. Lady Chapp, Helen Wood, Marmot Bay and Royalty are at Castleton, soon to be joined by Pickworth, Epicurean and Lady Chloe – all expecting foals in 2015. I took these photos of some of the mares and youngstock still at Sharp Hill.
We did have a winner today though, and she won as easily as Iftikaar yesterday. Daughter Izzy won the Area Cross Country by about ten lengths, not quite on the bridle but comfortably well clear. A proud day!
Tomorrow we have runners at Fakenham and Musselburgh, with the horses in good form we will be hoping to add to our jumpers tally. Stag’s Leap goes to Fakenham ridden by Henry Brooke, his first run over hurdles for a good while but he ran a decent race at Catterick on the flat latest. We are triple handed at Musselburgh tomorrow, although the forecast is really not looking good and all ours want decent ground – it looks like its going to be a very wet day, brollies at the ready. The runners declared are Istimraar (2 mile handicap hurdle with his 4 year old allowance) , Phil Dennis claiming 8lbs off him in this conditional race. He is in the 1 o’clock so may get away with the weather and will handle it with some give, but Factor Fifty (Phil Dennis) and Pass Muster (kyle James) will have to wait and see what the weather does. Its difficult as Factor Fifty is a Partnership horse and his 20 Owners are not sure whether to go or not! If he runs it is likely to be his last start of 2014 before his winter break, he has had a good summer with a win and three seconds.
