A fantastic 16-1 winner by one of our yard favourites at Doncaster – a great ride from Richie and lovely to see his chestnut head in front again, he has been such a grand servant to both Kate and ourselves. And he makes Phil 3rd in the countries ‘Hot Trainers ‘ list.
Having just watched the replay what an incredible race, i am told he touched 500-1 in running on Betfair, and you can almost see why as 4 out he was losing ground and then as they came int to the straight he found his second wind and suddenly he was going batter than anything! What a performance in ground he doesn’t like against decent company, Kate’s Racing Post quote that this was his ‘best ever run’ is surely spot on.
2 blow outs at W’hampton and a long drive home for Julie means this winner is an even more welcome tonic to keeps the yards spirits sky high!
No more purchases by Phil at Tattersalls – as usual there was no value to be had compared to Doncaster or Ireland. Underbidder on several including Night’s Watch.
Tomorrows runners are the staying Ownarachorse pair: Brunello and Stormy Morning – we are looking forward to their race plus Marmot Bay takes her chance again at W’hampton after a rear in the stalls tonight caused her to miss the break and also our dual 2013 winner ‘Brigadoon’ who should have come on for his first run back after a break.

Phil is at Newmarket potentially fulfilling some orders and we already have one purchased – Gareth Fawcett has selected a well bred filly: By Thousand Words x Islangadore to run on the flat this year. Further updates througout the day.
Today we have runners over jumps and also on the all weather – Everaard and Triple Eight are at Doncaster, the ground will be a bit soft for Everaard but he needs a run, is fighting fit and this will keep him ticking over until the ground is more in his favour. Triple ran nicely on his novice hurdle debut for a mid field place and more of the same is expected as these novices are impossible to win.
Further down country at W’hampton it will be a case of hoping Marmot Bay comes out the stalls quickly and safely for Eva (who rides her in all her work at home) as she can be quite a madam. She is well handicapped on her best form and if she fancies it we wouldn’t be at all surprised if she won. Elspeth’s Boy has had a few weeks back at Castleton to freshen up and has been enjoying his work back at Middleham the past fortnight, he is a capable horse on his day and he is capable of winning also. Half or a quarter of him is for sale/lease. If marmot Bay comes out of the race well she will also take her chance again tomorrow, Jimmy Quinn booked.
