Saturday at Haydock & Newcastle

PREVIEW….We have 5 runners today across 2 cards – jumping action at Haydock & on the flat at Newcastle. Skycutter takes on the hot favourite Porticello in the Victor Ludorum Juvenile hurdle, he’s second in the betting and goes there in great shape – Tommy will be doing his best to conserve him on this ground as he’ll have to get every yard in the bottomless conditions.

Ben is taking his chance in another valuable hurdle race – he was originally going to Doncaster next week for a Veterans Chase but this looked a good opportunity for more decent prizemoney in a small field round track & conditions we know he handles. Tonmy is back on the saddle following the ban that cost him the Lingfield win and he will be hoping Ben can rise to the occasion again, we’d love a Grade 2 winner this afternoon. He may be 10 but he is lightly raced and has never looked better at home. It’s a high class field and he has it to do with the favourite and second favourite on ratings but Ben is a relentless galloper and there will be no more determined man on his back at Haydock.

Ben winning the Winter Millions Hurdle last month at Lingfield

We are hoping to get back on track with BUSHYPARK in the Pertemps Qualifier at 3.15. As with Ben, track, trip & ground will really suit him – he won The Paris Pike Novices Chase at the start of the season but has just been found wanting in that next grade up over fences. Not the biggest, we’d be hopeful a return to the smaller obstacles can re – light the fire – he is as honest as they come and a real yard favourite.

Up at Newcastle we have the talented AUTONOMY making his long awaited reappearance for Hambleton Racing, he won 3 on the bounce last winter and although will naturally come on for the outing today after so many days off, he retains his enthusiasm at home.

Autonomy this week with Jay
Annie Rose

Annie Rose is our final runner of the day – we’ll have to wait until 7.30 to see this lovely young mare make her debut for new Owners, she was bought at the recent Tatts sales – tonight’s run will tell us more about her. Best of luck & safe return for all our horses & jockeys today 🍀
