Saturday 19th January & videos

We’ve waited a year and now the time has come to see brave staying chaser ‘Courtown Oscar’ back on a racecourse, he heads to Haydock  for the finale on an exciting card, the 3 mile 0-140 handicap hurdle. Whatever happens, he will inevitably strip fitter next time as he is a great big burly horse and we are desperate to get a run in to him before a tilt at The Eider Chase at Newcastle in late February. Courtown has WON more than a third of his racing appearances, what a record – it stands at 7 wins from 22 starts. He’ll be led up by Travelling Head Girl, Julie who will be watching the race nervously, he’s undoubtedly her favourite horse and she rides him every day at home. Good luck and safe (and sound return) to Courtown for his Owners, The Harbour Rose Partnership. Sean Quinlan rides.

Just like at Ayr on Sunday, we’ve a runner in the first and the last at Haydock, and Tommy Dowson makes his comeback after injury on the Boxing Day winner, Suggestion. It’s a competitive little heat as you would expect at Haydock on a Saturday but he’s a general 5-1 shot and goes there in good heart following his close third at Newcastle.

It was a frosty but beautiful morning at the yard yesterday and I was out taking these photos and  video at second lot and freezing my fingers off in the process…

Phil even left the warmth of his tractor briefly……….(great photo by Megan Dent)
