The journey home from Hereford was made shorter for Phil tonight as Courtown Oscar, given a top ride from Davy Russell, battled all the way to the line to land the spoils in the 3m 2f handicap hurdle – the staying test really suiting him after what proved an inadequate 2m 6f at Haydock last time. Congratulation to his small group of Owners, Nobaj ltd.
We like Hereford – we are now 2 from 2 at the track! Courtown Oscar being 5lb lower over hurdles, Phil put this to advantage running here instead of going chasing this time, and although he gave his hurdles plenty of daylight he was quick when it mattered and this was a sound weight carrying performance under 11 stone 12lbs. His main aim for the season is The Tote Eider chase at Newcastle and the marathon test under a light weight could be right up his street.
Its Catterick tomorrow – and 5 minutes down the road for Episode who is back out over hurdles off a mark of 89 – Adam doing 10 stone on him and won’t be eating much for breakfast tomorrow. he schooled particularly well yesterday and this schooling video of a group of horses will be on the website tomorrow morning. Here is a sneak preview….
