Discay sprang something of a surprise for us and his Owners yesterday at Southwell – despite being quite well supported by the general public we felt he might need this comeback after 541 days off but clearly he didn’t! It was a very welcome surprise though and providing he doesn’t ‘Bounce’ he looks capable of going in again if we can keep the ‘wheels intact’ – he’s fine this morning and that’s great news. We ran two in this 2m4f Hurdle race and ‘Nicely Indeed’ settled well and jumped miles better – this was a lovely ride he was given, unfortunately just meeting a bit of trouble at a crucial time but he finished his race better and hopes would be high for him next time – he wasn’t beaten far.
This win was also a great example of Owners being patient with a horse and it coming off – Discay has had two long sessions on the sidelines but has retained his ability and it was a fantastic training performance from Phil to get him fit enough to win this, and Simon rides him every day at home, so a very satisfying team effort between them.
We also saw the impressive looking ‘Magic Dragon’ making his first bumper appearance. This could end up being quite a warm race as several were well fancied. Although far from disgraced, Dragon didn’t set the world alight so we will be hoping for improvement on his next bumper start.
We are double handed today with our star flat horse STARGAZER making his comeback at Haydock and Misscarlett at Carlisle, a track Phil thinks will suit her – Callum Rodriguez rides.
Stargazer has to run here, this was the final day he could run to qualify for the Cesarawich so whatever he does this afternoon you would like to think there will be a bit extra in 5 weeks time. He looks big and well, but is up against some high class race fit rivals. He is ridden today by Kevin Stott who has ridden him twice for us previously. Sound tomorrow morning will be our most important result!
Some photos from this morning…..a busy day with lots of Owners coming to see their horses and enjoying the morning sunshine.
