Friday 18th Aug…

Today Whitchurch is being vetted before hopefully going off to his new owner. He may not have been in love with being a race horse for a while, but he has certainly been one of the best moving, soundest race horses we can ever remember having. Nobody can remember him having a lame day in his life! Jenny has been re-schooling him doing lots of flat work in the school and has jumped him over an assortment of show jumps we have.

Whitchurch tackles the ‘duck’!

We try our best to re-home our ex racers after their time with us comes to an end, Pippa puts a lot of time and effort into it. A lot of yards simply just cant justify doing so and unfortunately move them on as quickly as possible, letting them fall into the wrong hands, and more often than not in front of a vets bullet. It doesn’t make good business sense to keep them, literally eating profits – so they let them go. Some yards don’t, and we do all we can to give our horses a life after racing, as many are still young in comparison to other equine sports and have years of good service and fun left in them. Many of our ex racers have gone on to be hunters, show jumpers, dressage horses, show horses and ROR…. a series of competitions specifically aimed at ex racers.

A few pics of some ex racers we have received recently…

Kings Grey – Champion ROR

Word of Warning – aka Smokey – Doing a bit of show jumping. He is also a top ROR competitor.

Keep Up – in his 1st season away from us. We are sure he will make a top class show horse for Lucy Glover with his stunning good looks.

Tomorrow…

Tomorrows runner is Bohernagore who runs at Market Rasen following his encouraging first run for us at Uttoxeter a few weeks ago. He ran well out in front, pleasing himself and settled well. Adam Nicol takes the ride again, and he is much more favourable in the weighs this time, over a stone less than he carried at Uttoxeter, so if he gets his own way and settles as nicely as last time, hopefully he can do himself justice. Best of luck to him and his owners and most of all we wish him a safe return home as always.
