Tuesday’s News

Stargazer with Sammi

Two runners today -we have Stargazer at Newcastle (4.10) & Shine Baby Shine (4.15) at Leicester – this is a stepping stone for Stargazer to the Easter Fast Track Stayers final at Lingfield and although he was going to go to Lingfield prior, Phil has looked at this opportunity and re-routed him here. Robert Winston rides again, he got on with him really well last time and we are all excited to be running our 100 rated flat machine again! He’s such a character of a horse too, wouldn’t we just love to run him over hurdles…. but you have to weigh up the risk and just at the moment we aren’t feeling it is worth it as he is running for some big prizes on the flat.

Shine Baby Shine disappointed us last time over hurdles so today is very much a recovery mission after putting up a good performance a couple of weeks ago back on the flat at Newcastle. We don’t have many runners over jumps at Leicester but this Mares handicap looked an interesting opportunity and Tommy will be looking forward to reuniting with her. She is burdened with top weight and it does look a slightly tricky race, we wish her and her connections a lot of luck and safe return.

No winners yesterday but some decent performances from all three horses – Bertie Blake got the closest with second in the last at Sedgefield – he just couldn’t catch the free going leader but this was his 3rd placed effort from 4 starts and we feel he can get his head in front soon. He’ll also be schooled over fences now as both Tommy and Adam have suggested he is ready. It was a good start for some of his new Owners.

Romeo Brown ran a solid race for 3rd in the Novice for us, this was a decent effort and he is a lovely young horse for the future. Finally we had Man of Verve in the 7.55 at Wolverhampton and he looked to be swinging with a furlong to go but the door was shut several times and he had to be content with a close up 5th, it looked as though he would have gone close.

Today Phil is attending the Goffs Sales at Doncaster and has some well bred NH youngsters to look at. We aren’t selling any of our NH foals, but it’s a good catalogue and interesting to see stock by different young sires. We are currently picking stallions for Lady Chloe and Helen Wood – favourites at the moment are either Yeats or Getaway so it looks as though they will be having a holiday in Ireland at Coolmore coming up. Both are in foal to Milan at present and we also have Lady Buttons half sister Lady Westener in foal to the French stallion, Spanish Moon, sire of ‘Laurina’.
